Congratulations to our junior and intermediate soccer teams on a great meet this past week. It is a short season, but your teamwork and sportsmanship was evident in all your games. Thank you to Mr. Sy and Mme. Sousa for coaching the teams and to our parent volunteers for their support. This coming Thursday is the cross country meet.
This week, I was inspired by our first Spencer Spirit Squad meeting. This amazing group of grade 6-8 students are planning a fun Fall to boost spirit and have a little fun. Our first Spirit Day is Friday with our “Wear your Spencer Colours Day.” Our colours are light blue, black and white. A reminder to families that you can order Spencer Wear at any time at https://spencerave.deco-apparel.com/. We are also having a Spirit Assembly, organized and hosted by Triple S on Friday at 1:45pm for ur grade 1-8 classes.
Thank you to all parents who made it to our first school council meeting of the year. Congratulations to our 2025/2026 executive:
Co-Chairs - Jennifer Horne and Lisa Lankoff
Vice-Chair - Melissa Wood
Treasurer - Leigh Sanger
Secretary - Amy Lang and Shannon Mullin
Our next School Council Meeting is on Monday, October 27th at 6:30pm in the library. All parents are welcome.
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day take place on September 30. Orange Shirt Day is a commemorative day led by Indigenous communities to raise awareness about the intergenerational impacts of residential schools on children, families, and communities. It honours Indigenous children who were lost in the residential school system. The orange shirt symbolizes the loss of culture, freedom, and self-esteem that many Indigenous children experienced. This day reminds us that “Every Child Matters”.
