The first week of school is now in the rearview mirror.  It has been great to see students settling into their classrooms and to hear about all their adventures from the summer.  At this point we are still waiting to hear from the school board if we will need to reorganize any of our classes, particularly our FI classes.  I will send out information early next week.

You may have noticed that there was some construction at the school this summer.  We had some work on the side and back yard to improve drainage.  The fencing on the school yard is to protect the new sod that was put down until it is established.  During construction our flag pole was hit.  We are waiting on a repair to it.  Also, our backboards were removed as they were damaged and we are waiting on replacements.  We will also have the games repainted on the yard this Fall.

For our new families there are always a lot of extra-curricular activities happening at recess.  Students find out about these by paying attention to our daily announcement slide deck that is shown in the classroom before 10:30am each day.  This week our grade 4-6 students were able to sign up for soccer tryouts and lunch helping.

We also play O Canada on the announcement slide deck each morning.  We play it in English, French, with sign language and in the language of one of the First Nations. We sometimes have our students sing it for us. On Fridays we play O Canada featuring one of the different languages our students speak at home. If you are fortunate enough to speak many languages please send me a quick email so we can include it one Friday.  Our students get really excited to hear so many languages.

Plans of Care:

A reminder to families that have children with Life Threatening conditions that we need to have a new Plan of Care, signed by a medical professional, on file.  Thank you to those of you who reached out to let us know that you have scheduled an appointment.  With the Plans of Care there is also a form regarding transportation.  This is essential for our students who ride a bus and a good idea when we go on field trips throughout the year.  All forms can be found at https://www.ugdsb.ca/page/policy-518-students-with-life-threatening-medical-conditions

Attention Grade 7 and 8 Students: Interested in the Mentors Program?

We're excited to offer the Mentors Program again this school year! The program pairs Grade 7 and 8 student mentors with Kindergarten to Grade 4 students to build connections, confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging. If you are interested in having your child participate, either as a mentor (Grades 7-8) or a mentee (K-4), please complete the form linked below. A separate form is required for each student.
