It was so wonderful to see so many families at our Meet the Teacher night last Thursday. I know that many children expressed to me how excited they were to show you their classrooms and to have you meet their teacher. Thank you also for your support of the Book Fair. There was over $3 000 in sales, with the profit going to purchase books and things for the Makerspace. The Book Fair will continue until Wednesday.
On Friday we had a fun and successful Terry Fox Run. While the total number has not come in yet, we can let you know that we were able to raise over $1 000 for Cancer research. Thank you to Mlle. Kuenzig and her class for organizing the event for the school and for the wonderful announcements.
We are sending best wishes to our Intermediate and Junior soccer teams who are heading to the county tournaments on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Thank you to Mrs. Rogers, Mrs. Lowrie, Mr. Sy and Mrs. Vanmaanen for coaching the teams.
Our students are lucky to have so many wonderful opportunities to get involved in. This week cross country running started (grades 1-8), flag football (grades 7-8), Chess Club (grades 2-8) and Triple S (grades 6-8) all had meetings. Our grade 7-8 students were invited to apply to be mentors to younger students by our CYC, Jaime. Students find out what is happening each day by paying attention to our announcement slide decks. New this year…we have recorded some students singing and performing O’ Canada. It is wonderful to hear and see our students. Thanks to Mrs. Periard for using her great video skills to add this to our daily announcements.
From September 23-30 we will be recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Week. Teachers have been provided with resources that have been vetted by our Indigenous Lead and from the Council of First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples that helps to guide our Board’s work around these sensitive issues. On September 30 we will be acknowledging Orange Shirt Day as a remembrance of the survivors of the residential school system and those that were lost.
This Tuesday is our first School Council meeting of the year. We will be having elections for our executive positions of chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary. The meeting starts at 6:30pm in our library. All parents are welcome.
