We have been enjoying the fantastic weather this week.  It is great to be able to spend some learning time in the great outdoors!  We also welcomed to our staff this week Mrs. Hind and Mrs. Rigby.  Mrs. Hind will be teaching primary and junior planning time, taking over from Mrs. Gaetano who was covering for Mrs. Picard.  Mrs. Rigby is taking over teaching responsibilities in Mrs. Pogson’s grade ½ class.  We wish Mrs. Pogson and Mrs. Gaetano all the best as they grow their families.

On Thursday our Intermediate Battle of the Books team (Big BOB for short) competed in the Public Library’s competition.  We are so proud of the team for the work they put into reading all the books on the extensive list and for the time they gave at recess to quiz each other.  As always, thank you to our parent cheerleaders.

Tickets are going fast for Willy Wonka Jr.  Don’t forget to buy your tickets and enjoy a magical evening.  Tickets can be purchased at www.schoolcashonline.com

Please note that April 30 our photographer will be in to take the whole class photos for the year. Individual photos were taken earlier in the year.  There will also be an opportunity that day for our grade eights who missed grad photos or those who would like a retake to have those done.

Parent Volunteers wanted:  We are looking for parents who would be willing to help out as scribes for some of our grade three students on the EQAO assessments happening first block the week on June 2-5.  If you are able to help please email me at kimberly.dempseyjones@ugdsb.on.ca .  We are also looking for some parents with pick-up trucks to transport folding chairs from Parkinson on May 8th after school to Spencer for seating for the school play, and to return them on May 16th during the day.  If you are able to help please let me know.

We have seen a few cases of Fifth’s Disease in the school this week.  Considered a “common childhood ailment” it often appears with a fever and cold like symptoms before the child develops a rash on the face making the other name for the ailment “slapped cheek” disease.  The guidance from Pubic Health is if students feel well they are able to attend school as by the time the rash appears, the students are past the infection stage.  Please check out the following website to find out more: https://caringforkids.cps.ca/handouts/health-conditions-and-treatments/fifth_disease  If you have any concerns you need to contact your health care provider.

A reminder that our school is being used as a polling site on Monday for the Federal Election.  Voters will only be accessing the school through the front door and there will be security to ensure that the they go directly to gym.  Elections Canada is expecting good turnout so please keep this in mind if you are coming and going with your children during the day.  Our own students will be participating in the Student Vote, learning about active citizenship.  Thank you to Mr. Sy for organizing.
