This year Treaties Recognition Week is November 1-7, 2026. The week provides an opportunity to reflect on the importance of treaties and to deepen our understanding of treaty rights, responsibilities, and relationships. It also encourages students and community members across Ontario to explore the lasting significance of treaties and their continued relevance today.

Throughout the week, staff and students will explore resources that have been provided by the UGDSB Indigenous Education team and participate in learning activities that support an understanding of treaties. Teaching resources have been created for each division level and provide a variety of resources and opportunities to engage students in meaningful learning and to reflect on what it means to be treaty people.

We encourage educators, parents, caregivers, and students to learn more about their local treaty partners by visiting the UGDSB Treaty Partners map and exploring the websites of the following Nations:

Parents and caregivers are also encouraged to have conversations with their children about what they are learning about treaties and why treaties matter to everyone living in Canada.
