Getting Ready for Remote Learning January 2021

Posted December 29, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We hope that you and your families are well and were able to enjoy some family time over the break so far.

On Monday, December 21, the provincial government announced that schools in Ontario will move temporarily to remote learning following the winter break.  Following the announcement, the Ministry of Education confirmed to school boards that all elementary and secondary students will temporarily shift to remote learning starting on January 4th, 2021.  UGDSB elementary students will resume in-person learning on January 11th.  We understand that some families may need to borrow technology from the school for remote learning.  If you do not have technology at home to engage in remote learning, please complete the following Chromebook Request Form by 4 pm on January 31st, ONLY if you do not currently have a UGDSB device at home.  We will be prioritizing one device per family to start in January.  Additional devices will be made available after we have ensured that every family that needs one has one.

Devices will be available for pick-up on Monday, January 4th between 10-4 pm.  When picking up your device, please call the school when you arrive. Please visit the school and Board website for more information, as well as your email.

Please return all Chromebooks to your classroom teacher at the end of the remote learning period.

We also appreciate that for some families remote learning is not possible due to connectivity challenges.  If you require a paper package of learning materials please email me at [email protected] with your child’s name and teacher’s name.

We appreciate that these are challenging times and we are working hard to support your child in their learning.
