First Day of School – September 5 2023
Hello Erin Eagle Families,
Welcome back! We hope that everyone has had a safe and fun summer!!
Myself (Ms. Coulombe or Ms. C) and our new Vice Principal, Mr. Allen, along with the Erin P.S staff look forward to meeting and working with all of the Eagle students and families over the coming school year.
Please remember there are many ways to receive communication items from our school throughout the year.
- Website: www.ugdsb.on.ca/erinps . Please consider bookmarking it in your “Favourites” for fast, easy access.
- Email: Important information will also be emailed to families. In order to receive emails from school you need to make sure an up to date email is on file with the school.
- Twitter: This is a supplementary source of information, where we will post some reminders, due dates, events or pictures of what is happening in the school. @EPErinPS
- Teacher communication: teachers are using Google Classroom and will be sending emails to invite you to this year’s classroom so you can stay up to date with your child’s learning.
Here are a few pieces of important information about the first day of school:
8:55 | Entry Bell |
---|---|
10:35 – 11:15 | First Nutrition Break |
12:05 | Half Day |
12:55 – 1:35 | Second Nutrition Break |
3:15 | End of Day |
1) To figure out what class your child/children are in, you can find a staff member on the back tarmac any time after 8:40 on Tuesday morning; teachers will have signs up near the entry doors of their class indicating where their class should line up. Once your child knows which class they are in they can join their line when the bell rings.
2) Please bring indoor shoes and a refillable water bottle.
3) Intermediate students (grade 7 & 8) please bring a combination lock for your locker.
4) If your child/children take the bus, please make sure you have logged in to the Parent Portal on the transportation website to see what bus your child/children will be on.
5) Please check the school website regularly for information about construction in the area and the safest routes to get to Erin PS.
6) Please make sure your child is aware of their plan for getting home on the first day (are they taking the bus, getting picked up (if so where are you meeting them), walking home, etc.) and if this “go home” plan is different than what it will be on a usual day then please make sure the classroom teacher knows as well.
7) Your child(ren) will be bringing home information and forms on the first day, to be completed, signed and returned to their homeroom teacher. Please check over the white verification form and mark any changes to information directly on the form, sign the bottom and return to their homeroom teacher. The blue permission form is for walking trips within the neighbourhood. The green form is for consent to share personal information. Once signed, these forms are to be returned to your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher by FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH. Thank you for your prompt attention submitting these forms.
8) If you child/children bring a cell phone to school, please take a few minutes to review the cell phone policy with them:
- Off and away unless given permission from a teacher to use it for a specific reason (this includes earbuds/airpods and/or headphones)
- Does not go outside for nutrition breaks and is not used during snack or lunch (no technology use at snack or lunch, unless supervised by a teacher (not a duty teacher)
- Earbuds/airpods/headphones are not to be in the ears or on the head unless given permission to listen to music
- The school is not responsible for lost or stolen cell phones/technology
- Consequences for inappropriate cell phone use:
- First Offense – cell phone is left in the office for the remainder of the day
- Second Offense – cell phone is dropped off and picked up from the office each day for a week (or left at home) and a phone call home
- Third Offense – cell phone is dropped off and picked up from the office each day for a month (or left at home) and a meeting with parents/guardians
