Dear Kortright Hills Public School Community,

We hope this newsletter finds you in high spirits as we gear up for the festive season! There’s so much to share, from the success of our recent fundraiser to exciting events and opportunities to spread joy within our community.

1. FundScrip Fundraiser Success!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our recent FundScrip fundraiser. Your enthusiasm and generosity have propelled us closer to our $50,000 goal for playground improvements. With your combined efforts, we sold almost $30,000 in gift cards and raised over $1000 towards our outdoor play updates! Every contribution brings us one step closer to creating a vibrant and engaging play space for our little Cobras.

2. Cobra Spirit Wear – Order Now!

Missed out on the chance to showcase your cobra pride? Fear not! Our Cobra Spiritwear is still available for order until December 3rd. Visit bit.ly/KHPSSpiritWear to choose from an exciting array of spiritwear options. Orders placed by this date will be ready for pickup at the office by December 20th—just in time for gifting! During checkout, you can even opt for discreet office pickup to maintain the surprise for your little ones.

3. Cobra Wonderland: A Kortright Hills Holiday Extravaganza!

Save the date! Join us on Saturday, December 2nd, from 11 am to 2 pm, for “Cobra Wonderland: A Kortright Hills Holiday Extravaganza” in the school gym.  Get ready for a festive celebration featuring delicious food, a visit from Santa for magical photos, a silent auction with fantastic prizes, crafts, games, music, and more!

This season, let’s spread warmth beyond the festivities. We kindly request food and coat drive donations to support those in need. And don’t miss our “New to You” sale of toys and books—a perfect opportunity to find unique gifts while giving back to the community.

4. Charitable Giving and Warm Holiday Wishes

Consider making a charitable contribution to support KHPS via the Upper Grand Learning Foundation. Not only does this contribute to our school’s success, but it also comes with the added benefit of a tax receipt. Visit www.uppergrandlearningfoundation.com and choose Kortright Hills Public School as the ‘Fund’ you would like to direct your donation to on the ‘Donation Details’ section of the form.

5. Next School Council Meeting – Monday, January 15th

Mark your calendars! Our next council meeting is on Monday, January 15th in the school library (no December meeting due to the school break). We’ll kick off with a social at 6:15 PM, followed by the meeting starting at 6:30 PM. We’d love to see you there and hear your thoughts and ideas!

As we approach the holiday season, we want to extend our warmest wishes to all Cobra families. May your holidays be filled with joy, laughter, and precious moments with your loved ones. Here’s to a safe and happy holiday season!

Thank you for your continued support in making Kortright Hills School an even better place for our young Cobras. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and meetings. Wishing you all a fantastic December!

Warm regards, Kortright Hills School Council

Playground Repairs

A big thank you to our School Council for funding repairs for our broken playground climber!  It is now closed for the winter, but will be ready to go in the spring!

Library Learning Commons Update

Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you Kortright families for another successful book fair.  Thanks to your purchases we will received 60% of our sales back in books and resources from Scholastic, totally over $3000. The excitement from the students the moment the book fair arrived, was heartwarming and I hope it helps to instill a lifelong love of reading and educational success. Your children have been eagerly suggesting book titles they would like to see in the library, which is music to a teacher librarian’s ears.

Our Forest of Reading books should be arriving soon! Grade 3 – 8 students will be invited to join the Forest of Reading programs and hopefully we can get started reading before the holidays. Each program level has 10 books to choose from and students are required to read a minimum of 5 in order to vote in late April. That’s 1 book per month (December – April), so hopefully many students will challenge themselves to participate. The Blue Spruce program for Kindergarten to Grade 2 students will begin in January during class visits to the library. You can view the nominated books using the link below.

Thank you for your continued support of our Library Learning Commons programs!

Changemakers T’is the Season

This year the Changemakers Group will once again be making candy cane reindeer that can be purchased and sent to friend within the school.  It is a little gift to let someone know that they are appreciated and on their minds.  The option to pre-order a reindeer for $  will be available on Cash Online in the near future.  Delivers will be made during the week before our winter break.  Money raised will benefit a local charity to be determined.

Term 1 Report Cards

Term 1 Report Cards will be coming home Feb 15th.  The Ministry of Education has made recent changes to the Ontario Language Curriculum.  These changes mean your child will be receiving one single mark in Language rather than one mark for oral communication, one mark for reading, one mark for writing, and one mark for media literacy.  Our teachers have been working hard to provide one mark that aligns with the new curriculum.  We will be sending out more information to families in the new year.

It is the parent’s responsibility to determine whether or not it is safe for his or her child to leave for school in inclement or severe weather. A parent must be aware of the following:

When a bus does not travel a route in the morning due to fog, ice, or snow conditions, it will NOT travel that route in the afternoon.

Buses may be delayed in the morning due to traffic, poor road conditions, mechanical breakdowns, etc. To ensure your child is not stranded at his/her pick-up point, please make sure they know what to do and where to go if their bus is more than 15 minutes late.

The STWDSTS website contains the most up-to-date information on school bus delays and cancellations. Cancellations will also be tweeted @stwdsts. An email will be sent to those subscribed to STWDSTS delays and cancellations.
