Dear Maryborough PS Parents/Guardians and Staff,

As you are aware, Public Health has notified us that an individual in our school has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Public Health has directed one class to self-isolate, as part of its established infection prevention and control measures.

The letter we shared with all families on our school website from Public Health on November 23rd, 2020 explains what the health unit and school are doing to prevent further spread of the virus in the school and the community. See the School/Bus Case Information Sheet shared yesterday for more information.

Our building is safe and remains open to staff and students. Custodial staff completed a thorough cleaning and disinfecting of the school yesterday and this morning, as part of our enhanced cleaning protocol.

We will continue to work closely with Public Health and take their direction as they complete their investigation. Where Public Health determines there was a transmission risk to others in the school, they will perform a risk assessment for any contacts. All students and staff determined to be at high risk of exposure will be directed to isolate and recommended to be tested within their isolation period.

So you are aware, the school board is required to post information about positive cases in a school setting on the board website. You can find that link here: https://www.ugdsb.ca/community/coronavirus/reopening-schools-plan/covid-19-advisory-reporting/. The identity of the individual is protected by privacy legislation and will not be shared.

If you have questions, please contact Public Health at 519-822-2715 ext. 7006.

Thank you for your continued support!

Tim Dickieson

Principal, Maryborough PS
