STAY IN THE KNOW!
Each Friday, the ‘Brant Weekly’ update is sent by email, posted on the school website at ugdsb.ca/brantave, and made available via the UGConnect app. If you are not receiving it via email, please contact Ms. Drinkwater in the office.
VOLUNTEER WITH US
We hope you are interested in volunteering at Brant Avenue Public School. We love when our students’ families are able to get involved – and your children do, too! If you’re interested in coming on a field trip, riding the bus with a sports team, or working with students as they learn to read, please complete this process soon.
Volunteer Agreement Form (available in the office)
Criminal Record Check (CRC) with Vulnerable Sector Screening
Need a new CRC? Ask Kym in the office for your personalized letter
You are only required to complete the agreement form once for the year and criminal record checks are good for five years with an annual offense declaration. We are incredibly grateful for our many volunteers!
EVERY DAY COUNTS! ATTENDANCE MATTERS
We want students to stay home when they’re really sick, so it’s important that they come to school as often as they can otherwise. If they’re well enough, they should be at school. Usually, we find that students are able to make it through the day if they’re tired, have a ‘worried tummy’ or have started their day with a headache.
Did you know that missing just two days of school per month adds up to 10% of the school year? That’s like missing a full month of learning!

HOME-SCHOOL CONNECTION
In order to 'Work Hard' at school and do lots of learning, we need to know and follow the expected behaviours. In September, our students worked with their teachers to develop and post shared classroom expectations using student voice. For students in Grades 1-6, their success with these items will show up in the 'Learning Skills and Work Habits' section on the Report Card.
Check out all the class expectations in the Academics section of our website at www.ugdsb.ca/o/baps/page/academics

BRANT BEARS WORK HARD! ARRIVE ON TIME - STAY ALL DAY
ACCESSIBILITY SUPPORTS & TRANSLATION SERVICES
Everyone is welcome at our school. If you or a family member need accessibility supports (e.g., preferred seating, large print) please contact the office.
Do you or another caregiver speak a language other than English? We can arrange for translation services if needed, including ASL - please ask!
Please note that there are funds available to help! Connect with the office for private, confidential assistance with covering student fees at any time.
HALLOWE’EN NOTES
We have chosen to celebrate Halloween here at Brant Avenue PS with costume dress up and also black and orange. It is important to remember that Halloween is a day that is not observed by all students or staff. With this, it is considered a choice to participate as are all spirit days. Absolutely no weapons even if they are pretend!
Note About Costumes: It is important that no one uses identities or cultures as costumes. This includes appropriative costumes or cultural stereotypes (i.e., cultural garments that are not part of your identity), black/brown face, transphobic costumes, body-shaming and objectifying costumes, and costumes that joke about situations that have caused harm (i.e., COVID pandemic). Such costumes perpetuate stereotypes and can cause harm that can further marginalize and oppress community members.
If you have questions or concerns about costumes, please contact Ms. Jones directly.
