Le Carnaval de Brisbane (Winter Play Day) - Thursday, January 22

Thursday, January 22, Brisbane will continue the Canadian tradition of celebrating winter with “Le Carnaval de Brisbane”, a winter play day full of outdoor fun!

Students will participate in many snowy activities outside and will be offered a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy. During our last block of the day, students will warm up and watch a movie with their classmates. Movies will be selected from the school board's approved catalogue.

As students will be spending most of the day outdoors, students MUST come to school Thursday with a complete set of winter clothing: snow pants, winter coat, hat, mitts. An extra pair of mitts and an extra pair of socks are strongly encouraged! If you need any help accessing winter clothing for your child, please contact your classroom teacher or the main office.

We are looking forward to celebrating the winter weather! Vive le Carnaval!

Welcome back students and staff! This month for Wellness Works we will be exploring strategies to cope with stress. Learn more on the board website: https://www.ugdsb.ca/article/13088

A yellow graphic that says coping with stress
Some stress can motivate us to complete things and help us at times. Too much stress, on the other hand, can be problematic and have overall negative impacts on our thinking, our bodies and our performance.
Start conversations about what stress is and how it feels.
When you’re overwhelmed, try naming your feelings and explaining the strategy you’re using to cope.
Activity: Take three slow, deep breaths from the lower belly. Inhale through the nose and exhale slowly through the mouth. Try this before meals, at bedtime, or before activities that might feel stressful.
Championing Health and Well being: Did you know? According to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) prolonged stress increases the risk of mental-health issues like anxiety or depression, and physical problems such as headaches, muscle tension, digestive issues, fatigue, sleep problems, and even cardiovascular risks (2025)
Classes for students resume on Monday January 5, 2026. Happy Winter Break UG!

A green graphic that says Authenticity #MHUG
A green graphic that says Being authentic is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and those around us.
A green graphic that says Speaking your truth—honestly and respectfully—while accepting that others may see things differently.
A green graphic that says Did you know that studies have linked authenticity with increased levels of happiness?
A green graphic that says Activity: Create a family uniqueness board: Instead of just making a list, try creating a shared poster where everyone adds something that represents their strengths.
A green graphic that says Championing health and well being People who live authentically tend to experience greater psychological well-being—and better mental health often leads to better physical health, too. Authenticity isn’t about perfection—it’s about alignment, connection, and the freedom to be yourself.
