As part of Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week, our Rickson students will have the privilege of hearing from and interacting with Michael Jacques on Tuesday, November 18th. Diagnosed with autism and an intellectual disability at a young age, Michael has worked hard to become a published author, an activist, and public speaker. His story demonstrates the empowerment that comes from being comfortable in your own skin, knowing your strengths, valuing relationships, and giving back to your community.
Rickson parents, guardians and staff also have the valuable opportunity to hear from Michael at an evening event on November 18th, from 6-7pm. As our guest speaker, Michael will share his life experiences to highlight the power of belonging, and how we each have a role in fostering it in our community. This is a great chance to build inclusivity and understanding of neurodiversity within each of our families as well as our school community. Michael’s presentation helps us identify the value of inclusive practices and purposeful adaptations, supporting positive conversations and inclusive values. His story is an incredible example of how we all can accomplish so much when we have the right tools and people who believe in us.
