More than 440 Core French students from Westminster Woods and Aberfoyle Public Schools were treated to an unforgettable concert experience with Franco-Ontarian artist LeFLOFRANCO. This special event, organized by dedicated FSL teachers from those schools and supported by FSL funding from the Ministry of Education, provided students with an authentic opportunity to experience French language and culture through music.
LeFLOFRANCO, a dynamic hip-hop and urban pop artist of Haitian descent, is well known for his energetic performances and strong cultural roots. A proud Franco-Ontarian, he gained national recognition after winning Manie Musicale in 2023 and continues to inspire youth across Canada with his positive messages and engaging sound.
Students were captivated by his performance, which brought the French language to life in an exciting and relevant way. “Inviting my students to see LeFLOFRANCO (Winner of Manie Musicale 2023) perform was truly inspiring—his passion and talent captivated students and enriched their French as a Second Language learning journey,” said E. Baswick, FSL teacher at Aberfoyle. “It was a meaningful experience that deepened their connection to Franco-Ontarian culture and made the language feel vibrant and relevant. Moments like these remind us how powerful music is in bringing both language and culture to life.”
The concert had a lasting impact on student engagement. One excited student shared, “I’m listening to ‘Level Up’ on repeat and really enjoyed the trip! Thank you for the trip—it was amazing meeting a celebrity in real life! Big thank you from me and to you!” – M.F.
Another student who moved here from Haiti reported the impact that a performance by a Haitian performer had for them: "J'aime le concert avec LeFloFranco! C'est la première fois que je vois un haïtien qui chante au Canada. Vive LeFlo Franco!" - J.J.
Events like this not only strengthen language skills, but also foster enthusiasm and a sense of belonging in French programs. Through live music, students are able to see French as more than just a subject—it becomes a living, dynamic part of their world.
