Our School

Opened in 1994, Primrose Elementary School is a rural JK to Gr.8 school located just north of the Primrose corner of Hwy 10 and Hwy 89. Students and staff enjoy a picturesque setting in the hills of Mulmur.

All Primrose students are bused to Primrose. Sixteen buses carry our students and students on their way to Centre Dufferin District High School. If buses are cancelled due to inclement weather, the school is opened to students for the day, however parents must arrange to drive their child in and to have them picked up before the end of the school (3:20pm), paying attention to safety and changing road conditions.

Primrose staff and students are the Pumas. Character Education is part of everyday life at Primrose, with a focus on PRIDE (Positive Participation, Respect, Integrity, Discipline and Empathy.) Members of our community are asked to be contributing members of the classroom, the school, the community and the world.

Environmental Education and the Arts are major areas of interest and involvement students. Thanks to the students in the EcoClub and the involvement of our “Eco-Parents”, the Primrose community has come together to maintain a vegetable garden, support wildlife preservation and learn ways to limit our environmental footprint. Students also benefit greatly from having a number of local artists who visit the school to share their talents and inspire our budding artists.

Primrose Elementary School serves as the centre of the Primrose community since our students’ families are associated with a variety of places including Shelburne, Alliston, Mansfield, Honeywood and Creemore. The school is supported by a large number of community organizations as can be seen by the awards ceremony each graduation. The School Council is very active and supports a number of student activities throughout the year.

Students who graduate from Primrose move on to Centre Dufferin and District High School in Shelburne. Graduates often come back to visit and share their successes and to connect with the warm memories of their elementary school days.
