From the Principal’s Desk – October 30, 2023

Posted October 30, 2023

Hello Arbour Vista families,

Happy Halloween to those who celebrate. We are looking forward to seeing the costumes of those who choose to wear one. There has been a buzz amongst the students about what they will be wearing. We also want to thank you for donating to the Guelph Food Bank. The response has been heartwarming. Collection bins will remain on site until November 1.

PICTURE DAY

Picture Day took place on October 25. Not to worry; if your child missed picture day, photo retakes have been scheduled for November 23, 2023.

DANCE ED

Back by popular demand! Dance Ed will join us again to provide students a fun, high-interest way to learn and participate in dance. The Dance Ed residency begins November 15, 2023, and each class will receive multiple individualized dance lessons. Specific class schedules and the date of the much anticipated final performance will come in the following weeks. If you haven’t already done so, payment for Dance Ed is up on Cash Online.

PARENT VIRTUAL INFO SESSION FOR myBLUEPRINT

Parents and Caregivers have an important role to play in supporting students with career/life planning and course selection. You are invited to join a virtual information session around maximizing the 7-12 myBlueprint Digital Pathways Planning Tool on November 7 at 7pm.

Parents and caregivers may register for this session via this link: https://shorturl.at/euQZ8 . A meeting link and additional details will be sent to registrants.

LATE ARRIVALS

Teachers begin attendance immediately upon entering the school. If your child arrives at school after the bell, please have your son/daughter enter through the front doors to pick up a late slip, as the office will register their attendance

ACCESSIBILITY & EQUITY

There may be times throughout the year when we ask parents to send in money to cover the cost of field trips, pizza, special events, etc. We understand that for some families, these funds may cause financial hardship. We never want a child to miss out due to financial hardship. If you are ever in this situation, please contact the school, and we will arrange to have the school cover the cost.

PICK UP

Thank you for informing the school when you will pick up your child for an appointment. The end of the day is very busy in the office. If you are picking up your child before dismissal for an appointment, call the office before 2:20 to ensure that the message is received in time.

ATTENDANCE SUPPORT

This week, let’s discuss some things to do if all the strategies you’ve tried so far to encourage regular attendance at school with your child haven’t worked.

  • Be consistent! Don’t give up. And know that there are supports for parents if you need them. “Put on your own oxygen mask, before others.”
  • There are resources available within schools and community support if there are other barriers to attendance such as having enough food for lunches.
  • Here’s a great resources with existing handouts and evidence based information: https://www.attendanceworks.org/

Have a fabulous week!
