From the Principal’s Desk – November 20, 2023

Posted November 20, 2023

Hello Arbour Vista Families,

It is hard to believe that we have reached the time in the year where we reflect and celebrate the many successes of our students with Progress Reports. We are looking forward to having you in the school for interviews with classroom teachers.

This is a great time to check the Lost and Found for those personal items that have gone missing.

Progress Reports & Interviews

Progress Reports were uploaded on November 14th to the Parent Portal. The online booking system for interviews is open until noon today, when the portal closes. If you miss the deadline, you may contact your child’s homeroom teacher to discuss availability.

Upon arrival for interviews, please be reminded that the front doors will be your entry and exit point and that adults are not permitted to use student washrooms. Single use washrooms are available for adults on each floor (lower floor beside staffroom and upper floor close to room 208-209).

If requesting a virtual meeting, please be sure to make that request with the classroom teacher, so that a link can be shared in advance of your designated time.

Bullying Awareness & Prevention Week

Ontario has designated the week beginning on the third Sunday of November as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment. Here in the UGDSB we are focusing on Support, Advocacy, Allyship and Action during this week.

Teachers will engage in meaningful conversations with students around Bullying Awareness and Prevention and informative resources have been shared with staff.

WHY Survey

UGDSB parents and caregivers are invited to complete the 2023 WHY Survey. This survey, which we are running with Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, is for students in Grades 4-12, all staff, and all parents/guardians. Completion of the survey is voluntary. This survey will provide the information we need to inform programs and supports. The results will also help identify opportunities to improve the well-being of children and youth in our community, as well as UGDSB Staff. The survey opened on November 13 and closes on November 24, 2023.Please see the following link to the parent/guardian survey: https://is.gd/2024parentwhy

The information is collected under the authority of Board Policy #204 and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.  Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this research project, please contact: Lyndsey Dossett, Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, 1-800-26-7293 ext. 4542, [email protected].

Grade 8 Parent Night @ Ross

Mark your calendars! John F Ross is hosting a Gr 8 parent/student open house on Thursday, November 30th, starting at 6pm. The school and rooms will be open to explore from 6-7pm and families are encouraged to wander and connect with various departments to find out about the different courses students can experience in Grade 8.  At 7pm, everyone will be encouraged to come to ELFox to listen to a presentation from the guidance department outlining what to expect next year, how to ensure the student will earn their high school diploma and how to be prepared for future pathways.  French Immersion families will be able to hear a separate presentation about the FI program at Ross following the guidance presentation in ELFox.

Inclement Weather

Bad weather is an inevitable part of winter, so it is important to stay informed about where to get updates/alerts about bus cancellations and delays (i.e. STWDSTS). You will also want to familiarize yourself with where info gets posted about school closures due to inclement weather (i.e. UGDSB websites and social). Important information can be found here for your reference.

Picture Retakes

Reminder that Picture retakes take place on Thursday, November 23, 2023.

Have a great week.
