From the Principal’s Desk – February2024

Posted January 29, 2024

Hello Arbour Vista families,

I hope that you enjoyed the warmer days this weekend.  It is hard to know what to expect of the weather these days.  We continue to encourage students to come to school prepared to spend recess outdoors.

Faith Days During February

Acknowledging and celebrating days of faith is an important aspect of many religious traditions and cultures. Different faiths have their own holy days, festivals, and observances that hold significance for their followers. During the month of February, please see the days that will be acknowledged and celebrated by some members of our school community. Please note that there is diversity within faith communities and that no one list can represent all faith traditions or observances.

Date Celebration Faith/Religion
February 1 Imbolc-Lughnasadh*  Wiccan/Neo-Pagan
February 10 Chinese New Year/Spring Festival (annee du dragon) Lunar New Year  Buddhism/Confucian/Daoism
February 14 Ash Wednesday (Christianity)
February 14 Vasant Panchami (Hinduism)
February 15 Parinirvana Day  Buddhism
February 24-25, Laylat al-Bara’ah*  Islam
February  24 Magha Puja Day Buddhism
February 26-29 Ayyám-i-Há (Intercalary Days)  Bahá’í

*Please note that we acknowledge Valentine’s Day, Family Day and National Flag day and other significant dates.   It is not included in this chart because it is not a day of faith/religious holiday.

Grade JK-3 Family Math Night

Mark your calendars! Do you have a student in Grades JK- Gr 3? Join us for our Family Math Night on February 12, between 6:30-7:30. Explore different math centers and practise using money to purchase items in our Marketplace.

If this sounds like something you would like to help support, join us at our next School Council Meeting on February 6. The Google Link can be found on our school website, under the Parent Council heading.

Student Safety

Student safety is always our number one priority. It is important to note that using  the bus lane, before and during school is not permitted. We have a collective responsibility to ensure buses can come and go and that emergency vehicles have access to the front of the school at all times.

Stopping on the side of the street outfront of the school is also not permitted, as per the posted signage. This blocks the flow of traffic and can pose safety concerns. Please drop students off in the Kiss N’ Ride lane in the parking lot or park and walk in with your student(s). Sharing this messaging with anyone picking up or dropping off your student (s) is appreciated.

*This message does not apply to parents with pre- arranged drop off and pick up arrangements to support students with accessibility needs, or if picking up a child who is very ill.

Boston Pizza Orders

School Council has arranged for our students to have the opportunity to order from Boston Pizza. Foods will be delivered on Tuesdays, at second break, from February 6, 2024 through March 5, 2024. No late orders will be accepted. All proceeds will go towards paying for buses for school wide trips.
