From the Principal’s Desk – March 25, 2024

Posted March 25, 2024

Good morning Arbour Vista families,

Welcome to this week’s newsletter! With the weather warming up, we’re eager to soak up the sunshine alongside our students. Stay tuned for updates on upcoming events and exciting happenings at our school.

School Council

The School Council is planning a Family Fun Fair on May 30th. They are looking for volunteers to lead and organize stations. Without the support of volunteers, events like these would not be possible. Please see the flyer below with more information about how you can get involved.  If you are interested in leading a station please contact Sameeha at [email protected]

Dance-a-thon

The final numbers are in! We raised a total of $5,898.03 to support The Arts at Arbour Vista Public School. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Professor Jamz dance-a-thon and for the hard work and dedication of the School Council.

Invitation to Arbour Vista from Rickson Ridge Public School

The School Council at Rickson Ridge Public School is excited to offer parents, guardians and caregivers a reflective workshop that is sure to impact how we view this wonderful and diverse world of ours! We will consider how our individual experiences, the media, and our relationships, impact how we understand ourselves and our community. We are happy to extend our event to École Arbour Vista parents/guardians!

When parents/guardians and caregivers are involved, our schools become a more thriving and positive place to learn and grow. This interactive session is framed with the understanding that we play a vital role in education, making connections from the classroom to the home.

Led by a facilitator from social change organization Unlearn. Parents and caregivers will engage with Unlearn graphics to identify what each image is communicating, why we may see different things, and to consider how we can expand our ideas to understand each other’s perspectives. The process will help explore strategies that can be used to interrupt bias, stereotypes and discrimination by challenging societal norms that marginalize others.

Please sign up for the workshop at: Learning to Unlearn Registration Form (EAV)

The event is free, as are the refreshments for parents/guardians. Our session is on Wednesday, March 27th at Rickson Ridge Public School. Doors will open at 6:00pm and the session will run from 6:30-7:45pm. You must be registered to attend.

Free baby-sitting will be available in the school while you attend the workshop. With the exception of young infants, children will not be permitted to join the workshop. Parents/guardians are not permitted to leave the school building while their children are in the school building.

 Dogs on School Property

If you bring your dog during drop off and pick up please walk them along the grassed area on the opposite side of the parking lot (rather than the sidewalk/tarmac).  There are students and adults who are not comfortable around pets. We appreciate your support with this.  These measures help us to ensure that our community members feel safe at school.
