From the Principal’s Desk – April 2, 2024

Posted April 2, 2024

Good Morning Arbour Vista Families,

April showers bring snow showers…… wait…. that isn’t the way it’s supposed to go.  Hopefully the snow is finally behind us as we welcome a new season, one that is symbolic of growth and change. For those celebrating, we hope that you all had a wonderful Good Friday and Easter Monday with family and/or friends.

Faith Days During April

Acknowledging and celebrating days of faith is an important aspect of many religious traditions and cultures. Different faiths have their own holy days, festivals, and observances that hold significance for their followers. During the month of April, please see the days that will be acknowledged and celebrated by some members of our school community. Please note that there is diversity within faith communities and that no one list can represent all faith traditions or observances.

Date Celebration Faith/Religion
April 9-10 *Eid-al-Fitr  Islam
April 13 Vaisakhi Hinduism
April 20 First Day of Ridván  Bahá’í
April 21 Mahavir-jayanti  Jainism
April 22 Passover begins at sundown Judaism
April 30 Passover Ends after nightfall Judaism

*Please note that we acknowledge Sikh Heritage Month, Autism Awareness Month, International Day of Silence, World Day of Safety and Health, International Day of Pink: Anti-Bullying and Anti-Homophobia and other significant dates during the Month of April. These are not included on the chart above, as they are not days of faith/religious holidays.

Solar Eclipse Resources

Please see WDGPH’s  website which is now live with tips for safe eclipse viewing. They have also prepared a Public Health Safety for Solar Eclipse (PDF) fact sheet.

PD Day Change

This is a reminder that the Professional Development Day originally scheduled for April 19, will now take place on April 8. There will be no school for students on this day.

Police in the School

Please be advised that on April 11th, Officer Natasha Grant will be at the school for Bus Patrol Recruitment for the 2024-2025 School Year. Any students interested will be invited to attend an information session in the Library during the second break.

MacMillan’s Food Orders

The School Council has planned a MacMillan’s Food order fundraiser. The monies collected will go towards “greening” projects at Arbour Vista. All orders have to be submitted on time through Cash Online, under one student from each household. No cash or cheques will be accepted.

Be sure to hold on to your paper order form so you know who to deliver your items to.

School Council

Our School Council has been hard at work, planning and organizing exciting fundraising and community events for École Arbour Vista. If you would like to lend a hand or have great ideas worth sharing, please join us on Tuesday April 2, from 6:30-7:30 at our Virtual Council meeting. The link can be found on our website.
