February News

Posted February 10, 2022

Dear CMES Families,
Our transition back to school in January was a smooth and welcomed return. With the beautiful winter weather, our students and staff have enjoyed the snow in our wonderful outdoor space, participating in building snow people, snow forts, snow structures and many other class challenges in the snow. The month of February has many celebrations, including the Chinese New Year, Black Heritage Month, and Valentine’s Day.  Our CMES students have much to look forward to !
With Family Day weekend approaching on February 21st, we wish all of our families a wonderful long weekend.
Sincerely,
Ms. Dianna Secord, Principal
& Ms. Sorcha Masterson, Vice Principal

WHY Survey
Beginning on February 14, the Upper Grand District School Board is collecting information on student health and well-being from youth, parents/guardians/caregivers and school staff. The Well-Being and Health Youth Surveys are designed to help us understand how well we are doing creating safe, welcoming, and inclusive environments in our schools. It also provides important information about the physical and mental health of youth in our area. More information was sent on February 7th.

Parents and Guardians are welcome to participate in the Well-being and Health Youth Survey (Why?) for Parents survey through the following link until February 28th https://survey.wdgpublichealth.ca/surveys/index.php?s=Y3MDMYWMH7

Black Heritage, Black Brilliance, Black Futures
We have many upcoming events to celebrate Black Heritage, Black Brilliance, Black Futures including virtual guest speakers and activities to support student learning. Please visit the link to access more information around this month https://www.ugdsb.ca/blog/ugdsb-celebrates-black-heritage-black-brilliance-black-futures-month/

Valentine’s Day
Due to continued COVID concerns, we ask our families not to send the Valentine cards and treats to school. Teachers will have special activities in lieu of the traditional cards.

Office Changes
Our amazing and much-loved Office Coordinator Ms. Fry took a contract position at Princess Elizabeth at the beginning of January. We will miss her, but welcome Ms. Harman and Ms. Scheinhuette to Credit Meadows as our new Office Coordinator and Office Assistant.

Muffin Days
Muffin Days are up on School Cash Online! Don’t forget to put in your order by Monday, February 14th. Muffins Days will be on February 23rd and March 2nd. All money raised goes towards our snack bin program, that provides healthy snacks to students in our school.

Screening Reminder
Students should be using the Ontario school and child care screening tool before coming to school daily https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Parking
As you know, our upper parking lot in front of the school is closed during drop-off and pick-up due to the safety of our students. We continue to remind our community that CMES is a walking school and encourage families to help with the traffic concerns by walking to and from school. We do appreciate that this is not always possible and ask, that if families must drive to use the many parking spots on surrounding streets. We have emailed families the walking maps that show places close by where you can park. Just south of CMES along Blind Line there are a number of cleared inlets with a large number of parking spots next to the sidewalk and is a short walk to the crossing guard at College Ave. who will assist students to cross safely to CMES. Please see attached maps. For the safety of our students, we are trying to decrease the number of moving vehicles around our school.

Please Note: Only special needs buses, buses coming back from school trips (when this happens again), people with accessible parking permits (must have this visible in the window), and emergency vehicles will be allowed to enter the upper parking lot. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
