Return to In-Person Learning January 2022

Posted January 13, 2022

Hello everyone;

As you may know, in-person learning will commence again at Eramosa PS on Monday, January 17th.  I am certainly looking forward it!

There has been a great deal of information announced over the last little while.  I hope this memo helps with most of the details.  I also know that staff members will be reaching out to check in.  Friday has been suggested as a day for asynchronous learning to allow everyone to get classes ready.

Feel free to ask questions if we have missed something or it is not quite clear.

What will school be like?

Most things will remain the same.  Classes will use the same doors, teachers will be in the same rooms and buses will run as usual.  The main change will be during recess where we have divided the yard so that only one class is in each particular section.  This will be a temporary situation.

There are a few things to know though.

  • Clubs and teams will be on hold for a little while.
  • However, helpers will be able to continue their jobs in Kindergarten, if they choose to.
  • Soon there will be food offered through Lunchbox Orders. We will let you know when everything is in place.
  • The Library is open.
  • Three-ply cloth masks will be available for every student if they wish one.

What should every day look like?

Children should get ready for school as usual.  Public Health has provided a screening tool and a set of guidelines.  Every child should be screened prior to coming to school.

Here is the school and child care screening tool:  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

Here is a link to some guidelines for you:  https://covid-19.ontario.ca/exposed

A good rule of thumb is, if your child is feeling ill, it would be better to stay home.  That is not anything new.  That has been in place about any illness for quite some time.

If a child displays symptoms of COVID-19 at school, or is feeling ill, we would be in touch with the family to have the child (and any siblings) taken home.  Again, that is the same as has been done for quite awhile.

What is the Temporary Remote School?

This is being offered by UGDSB as a temporary situation for people who are not certain about returning to in-person learning.  It is not connected to the permanent Elementary Remote School.

Weekly asynchronous learning activities will be posted for students to work on independently. This option does not include synchronous or live teaching (online instruction) or assessment of work completed during the temporary absence. Parents and students will however, have access to teaching staff who can provide clarification or guidance on asynchronous work posted for a specific grade.

Students will remain connected to their regular teacher.  If attending the temporary remote class, children will not be marked as being absent.

The only requirement is that the parent let the office know if they have decided to go with this option for the short term.

How will attendance be handled?

This will be done as usual.  We will be sending absence numbers to Public Health daily.  If the number of children away exceeds 30%, then Public Health would be in touch with the school community.  In addition to that, I will be contacting the community at least weekly to make you aware of what our attendance numbers look like.

What should we do with the Chromebooks?

Please send them back with your child(ren), so they may be used in our classrooms.

What if we have questions?

Feel free to connect with the school at 519-856-9529 and we will try our best to provide you with the information you require.

Thanks again for everything you have done and continue to do.  It is a pleasure being connected with the Eramosa PS community.

Best regards,

Paul Tribe, Principal
