About Us

John Black Public School is a Kindergarten to Grade 8 school located on a 2 acre parcel of land overlooking the Grand River in Fergus. The school although located on the outskirts of Fergus has a rural character.

John Black school was originally built in 1959 on a parcel of land donated by the John Black family. In 1994, the school was extensively renovated with the addition of numerous classrooms and a larger gymnasium. The school was reopened in 1995 as it appears today.

Mission

The Mission of John Black Public School, as a family centred community school, is to develop each student’s ability to acquire skills, knowledge, responsibility and respect for self and others, by providing diverse learning opportunities within a safe and nurturing environment.
