Classroom Reorganization

Posted September 12, 2023

Classroom organizations within the Upper Grand District School Board are tentative for the first two weeks of school until they are passed by the District Staffing Committee. Schools have built class lists based on tentative organizations.  Changes are sometimes necessary so that our Board remains compliant with Ministry of Education parameters with respect to class size. I have been informed that JD Hogarth Public School must reorganize some of our classes in order to be compliant with Ministry directives.

These changes are determined by the parameters set out by the Ministry.

Ministry of Education Parameters

× 90% of the Board’s primary classes with 20 or fewer students

× 10% of the Board’s primary classes up to a maximum of 23 students

× Grade 3 /4 classes have a cap of 23 students (meeting the Ministry’s ratio of primary students to junior students)

×  Junior/Intermediate Class Size Average for the Board is 24.5 students to 1 teacher (an aggregate across the Board, not the school)

Classes impacted by the reorganization are some K-2 students in English and some grade 3 and 4 students in FI.  PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT YOU WILL RECEIVE A PHONE CALL IF YOUR CHILD IS IMPACTED BY THESE CHANGES.   You will receive a letter if your child’s class was re-organized, regardless of whether your child moved classes.
Sincerely,
Tracy Oldfield-Baker + Nathan Adams
