Welcome to the First Day of School

Posted August 29, 2017

Welcome to another school year at John McCrae!

We are so happy that you are joining us.  While the first day of school is exciting, it can also be worrisome for parents (especially those who cannot accompany their child to school).  We promise to look after your child!!!

On Tuesday morning, the following will happen:

  1. Students will be directed to the back of the school where all staff will be waiting.
  2. Signs will be posted with grades (1-8) and at least one teacher will be standing next to the sign.
  3. Students will find their grade and stand close by.
  4. When the bell rings, teachers will call out their classes and take their students into the school.
  5. Staff members without classes will remain on duty and collect any students who did not go in with a class. They will help these students get into a class.

If it rains, all 1-6 students will go into the gym and classes will be called out there (please no parents).  Grade 7 and 8 students will go upstairs.  Classes will be posted at the top of the stairs and teachers will be available to direct students.

At the end of the day, we would ask that, if you are meeting your child, you have a specified meeting place.  Otherwise, they will be dismissed to walk home or take the bus.

Please note that supervision begins at 8:20 am before school and ends at 3:20 pm after school.

Looking forward to seeing you!
