Parent Council would like to send a big thank you to all the staff, parents and students of John McCrae Public School who have worked so hard to support us this year. We look forward to working with you all again in the 2022/23 school year as we continue to support learning and the community.

Capturse2

On September 6th, staff will meet students outside (back of the school) by the appropriate signs (ie. Grade 3 area) . Once the bell has gone, teachers will call out names and take their new class into the school.  There will be many staff outside to help with any questions. An information booth will be located outside to help with any questions.

Kindergarten students will go directly to the K yard where they will be greeted by their educators.

If it rains, students will meet in the gym and organization will take place from there.

Please understand that these class assignments are final. Please do not call the school to have your child moved. Staff have spent days developing classes based on a detailed set of criteria, focused on student learning and success. We take this process very seriously and do our best to plan for the success of all of our students.

In this complex process we take the following into account:

  • Learning partners
  • Ability groupings – learning groups
  • Needs of students
  • Separating some students due to relationship issues depending on the number of classrooms
  • Balancing gender/ non binary
  • Behavioral needs / dynamic between students
  • Combined classrooms are not streamed (for example, a 1/ 2 split is not high achieving 1 ‘s and low achieving 2’s ) – Combined Class Resource

As in the past, in the middle of September the Board re-evaluates numbers across the system which may cause a reorganization.

Looking Ahead

Before you know it you will hear back-to-school advertisements and receive shopping flyers filled with school supplies. The following information may be helpful for you to make decisions when that time comes. We provide all students with supplies such as pencils, erasers, paper and notebooks.  It is not necessary for parents to purchase these. Other supplies such as scissors, glue sticks, rulers, markers and crayons are in all classrooms to be shared among students.

Some children prefer to have their own supplies to keep in their desks. If you choose to purchase items for your child, we recommend the following:
