A letter from our Patrol Captain

Please take a few minutes to read the following letter written by our Grade 6 Patrol Captain – Allie.

Dear Drivers,

At John Galt Public School we have an amazing walking and bus patrol team. The parking lot (front of the school) and Lane Street and Ryan Avenue (the side of the school) are both walking patrol posts. At the parking lot entrance, we ask that you don’t park on Laurine Avenue near the school or park inside of the parking lot. Instead, please park on Lane Street, Ryan Avenue or Winston Crescent and walk up to the school.

The reason we ask this is because as patrols, we need to help people cross the road safely and parking too close makes it hard for us to see without stepping onto the road.

It can also make it hard for emergency vehicles and buses to get to the school. Last year we had a problem where we needed firetrucks. The firetrucks came but they couldn’t get into the parking lot because there were too many cars on the road. The firefighters did get to the school but they had to get out of their trucks because of the cars.

Inside the parking lot we have set up cones but some people are parking diagonally; if there is a cone there that means we don’t want you to park there! The cones are there to save room for buses to drop kids off in front of the school.

We also ask that you stay below 30 km/h in our school zone.

That’s all and we hope you stay safe.

Sincerely,

Allie, Walking Patrol Captain
