Principal’s MessageEducation, Back To School

You can see our newsletter by clicking on the following link: June Ave September 2021 Newsletter.

Welcome back to the 2021-2022 school year! 2021 has been a year unlike any other so far, with many unprecedented events happening in our world, but we hope that you were able to take time to be with your families over the summer.

Welcome to new students, staff, and parents. As we prepare to start the year, we will continue to look for adapted ways to involve all members of our school community within the parameters of the current pandemic plan. Join us at our first virtual School Council meeting on Tuesday, September 14th at 6:30 pm.

A big thank you goes out to everyone for their patience, flexibility, and understanding, as we continue to adapt to new routines. Our school continues to have many plans both within and outside the classroom to keep everyone safe. We understand that everyone has had a different experience when it comes to life during the pandemic. With this in mind, as we start the school year, we will continue to focus on student and staff mental health. Staff will be developing activities in the classroom that promote classroom community and focus on helping all students to integrate back into the classroom. In addition, we will continue to listen to our students and we will help to support our students in the ways in which this is required. Trusting relationships are key to a successful year, and our staff will be working hard to establish this foundation. If there is anything you feel that your child’s teacher should know, do not hesitate to reach out.

As always, the school is spotlessly clean. We are so thankful to Mr. Beaumont and Ms. Sayer-Hall who spent the summer cleaning chairs and desks, shining floors, polishing windows, moving furniture, unpacking boxes, moving more boxes, and an endless array of jobs! Mr. Beaumont & Ms. Sayer-Hall’s flexibility and extra efforts to have our school ready are second to none. I hope you will show your appreciation of their hard work by encouraging your children to do their part to help keep our school and grounds clean or by simply taking the time to say “Thank you.”

I would also like to acknowledge all the extra time and commitment our teachers and staff have put into getting their classrooms and our school ready. Throughout the summer, many staff members have been in and out of the school preparing lessons and the physical environment to ensure the safety and best learning environment for all. To each of these dedicated professionals, I offer my sincerest thanks. It is your hard work, commitment, and dedication that make a difference in the lives of our students.

Over the summer, there have been a few additional changes to the June Ave staff. Ms. Martens and Ms. Peterson have retired and we wish them well! Please join me in welcoming: Mr. Ladner (Junior Teacher) and Ms. Beedie (CYC). Welcome back to Mrs. Harman, Mrs. Sommerville, Mrs. West, Ms. Cutting, Ms. Golding and Ms. Powers-Anderson who are all part of our EA team.

This is a reminder that classes are temporary until the district staffing committee finalizes our numbers and ensures we meet the Ministry of Education’s class size goals. If changes are necessary, staff will work hard to make sure that students feel comfortable in their new classroom. Please understand that teachers and staff consider your child’s class placement very carefully. Many things are taken into account (i.e., learning styles, learning needs, teacher fit, peer groupings, etc.). With this in mind, please do not phone the school and ask us to make class changes.

We are looking forward to a great year at June Ave!

Sincerely yours,

Jill Woytko (Principal)
