Weekly Update

AutumnHello, King George Parents!

Firstly, to all families starting their Rosh Hashanah celebration today, Shanah Tovah!  Now, on to business…

We have had a successful reopening!  It was good to work with smaller groups of children to establish new routines at first, but then it was wonderful to be all together yesterday.  The staff and I are looking forward to an amazing year of learning.

Yearbooks were handed out yesterday to those children who placed orders last spring.  Please contact us if you think your yearbook was missed.  We are going to make sure all the orders are filled and then any yearbooks that remain will be offered through School Cash Online later in the year when we are able to collect funds again.

There is the possibility of rain in the forecast this week, but unless it is thundering, very cold or the rain is heavy, we will be going outside for recess and learning anyway.  Please make sure your child comes dressed for the weather.  It is healthy to spend time outside, especially now.  On wet days, students will be able to use hooks in the hallway and will be encouraged to change out of their wet rain boots into dry indoor shoes, so please tuck some indoor shoes into the backpack in the morning if it is rainy.

Many thanks to all the families who have returned Chromebooks they borrowed from the school in the spring.  They were well cared-for and we are getting them back into carts for student use at school or lending them out to families who have chosen remote learning for the start of the year.

There is a virtual School Council meeting on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 pm that is scheduled to run until 8 pm.  Here is a link to the meeting:  meet.google.com/ieq-fvmh-hmr.  All King George parents are welcome.  David and I will also be at the meeting along with a teacher from the school.  Please come into the meeting with mics and cameras off.  Parents are welcome to ask questions and make comments, but the process is much smoother if mics and cameras are off unless there is a comment or question.  The main order of business for this first meeting is choosing the executive for the year.  There will also be information about the new math curriculum, new routines and protocols in place at school, allocation of existing funds, updates on the snack program, and a few other items.  I will email the agenda to everyone when it is ready and it will be posted on Twitter, the website, and in the News section of the app.  Many thanks to the current executive for getting this year off to a great start.

Coming up this week:

  • Monday, September 21st is the date that the first Question de la semaine will be shared in Google Classrooms and on the announcements.  This will be a weekly event and a winner will be randomly selected each Monday for the previous week.  The prize is recognition on the announcements and having your photo posted in a frame by the main office!

Friday, September 25th is a SPIRIT DAY!  Students are invited to wear royal blue and gold/yellow to show their King George spirit!  Vive les chevaliers!!
