MirandaCongratulations to Miranda who won first place for her poem, “Poem for Remembrance Day.”

I live in a castle, tall and strong.

A castle, united where we all belong.

A castle surrounded by ice and snow,

Winter winds that wane and blow.

Trees stand tall around our home,

People are free to play and roam.

And all the people, stand together,

Connected by an unbreakable tether.

There’s no reason to fear judgement or hate,

People’s uniqueness, we celebrate.

The castle is adored by each who visit,

But even more by the people who live it.

The castle is vast, the castle is tall

and the castle was built for one and all.

But the castle is built on thousands of graves,

Where heroes’ weary heads are laid.

Brave men and women who gave us their lives,

To ensure that our country continues to thrive.

These soldiers who play their part,

Are our country’s noble hearts.

Their sacrifices are the bricks

From which our great castle is built.

But it would not be kind to forget,

Who lays on the tombs on which we step.

So we honour, respect and praise.

The courageous soldiers who rest in the graves.

We celebrate each and every name,

On the lists of soldiers, brave.

And, gratefully, we appreciate,

The state of peace in our castle today.

High in the sky there flies a dove,

To the heavens where soldiers smile from above.
