Fall LeavesHi, KG Families!

Happy weekend!  I hope you’ve had a great week.  We have here at school!  The Intermediate Football Teams went to a tournament yesterday and played super-well.  The Cross Country teams continue to practise and we are getting ready for soccer season!  It’s great to watch the kids play these fall sports out on the yard.  We also spent time this week learning some truths about the Indigenous experience here in Canada and considering what our role might be as we work towards reconciliation.  There were a lot of yellow, red and orange shirts today – a visible committment to listening and learning and taking action.

I have a few reminders!

  • Please send your child to school with cutlery for their lunches.  We don’t have spoons and forks in the office.  We are trying to reduce the amount of waste we create around this place.  I suggest leaving a spoon and fork in the lunchbag so it’s always there if needed.
  • If your child is going to be away from school for any reason, please call the office or email us (use this email address) to let us know.
  • Photo Day is on Monday!  We will be taking class and individual photos that day.  If your child is away for some reason, then the retake day for individual photos is November 7th.

Also, we are noticing that quite a few books from our home reading program are not here at school.  If by chance, you have a book or two kicking around your home from the days of lockdowns, we would be very happy to welcome them back.  Please send them to school with your child and we will make sure they get where they belong.

Finally, about half of the King George families have completed the Student Census. Thank you so much to those of you who have been able to make time to do that.  The goal of the census is for the school board to learn more about the diversity of students in our communities and make positive change to support students. The Student Census opened on September 19 and will remain open until October 9. The census data will be collected through an online survey. This survey is voluntary and confidential. For elementary students, an email was sent to parents/guardians so that parents can complete the census with or on behalf of their child. Please keep an eye on your email and don’t forget to check your spam folder! You can learn all about the census at www.ugdsb.ca/census. I encourage everyone to participate – we need to hear all the voices to be able to make the best decisions.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  The colours are beginning to really glow and the forecast is promising sunshine.  I hope you are able to enjoy the perfect fall weather and the beautiful leaves.

With warm regards,Jane
