A yellow background, it says empathy and #MHUG
Empathy is about being able to consider what someone else may be going through and imagining how they might be feeling or thinking.
Empathy is important because with empathy we are more likely to treat people the way they wish you would treat them.
Empathy is often the first step towards compassionate action and helping others.
Encourage your child/ren to consider how others may experience certain situations. Talk about what these situations could mean and discuss how to be empathetic.
Championing Health and Well being: Did you know that empathy can increase satisfaction in relationships and can lower stress levels which are two key factors in enhancing overall health and well-being.
Today is Principals’ Appreciation Day! Principals play an important role in creating safe, welcoming, and supportive learning environments where students and staff can succeed. Let's say thank you to these dedicated school leaders across the UGDSB today!

A green background: Gratitide
A green background: Gratitude is not just “good manners” and it plays a significant role in overall wellbeing.
A green background: Gratitude is not just about receiving, it is also about giving. So what can you do with your child/ren or even yourself to express gratitude?
A green background: Taking just a bit of time to identify gratitude can have an impact.
A green background: Activity - Create a gratitude wall or space at home where everyone can write something they are grateful for - the whole family, visitors, friends. Seeing what others are grateful about is also quite powerful
A green background: Championing Health and well-being - Did you know? The Mayo Clinic found that “Expressing gratitude is associated with a host of mental and physical benefits. Studies have shown that feeling thankful can improve sleep, mood and immunity. Gratitude can decrease depression, anxiety, difficulties with chronic pain and risk of disease.”

A blue graphic that says Self Advocacy
A blue graphic that says Self-advocacy is the ability to understand and communicate your strengths, needs, interests, and goals.
A blue graphic that says: Self-advocacy can look different for everyone, but it often includes speaking up for yourself
A blue graphic that says: A person’s ability to self-advocate can be influenced by many factors, including personal identity, lived experiences, and how welcoming and inclusive different environments are.
A blue graphic that says: Activity: Celebrate strengths: Ask your child(ren) to share something they’re proud of and talk about the skills and strengths they used to accomplish it.
A blue graphic that says: CHAMPIONING HEALTH AND WELL-BEING: Studies show that students who develop strong self-advocacy skills are better equipped to seek help, understand their learning needs, and communicate effectively with teachers and peers. This leads to increased academic engagement and achievement (Test, 2017).
