This year, along with other school boards and organizations across the country, the Upper Grand District School Board is commemorating National Truth and Reconciliation Week from September 21-25 and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30, while continuing our sustained commitment to both learning and action throughout the board.

Each year Truth and Reconciliation Week is an opportunity for students and staff to engage in history and learning in Indigenous Education. This year, educators will be provided with an updated slide deck of vetted digital and in-school resources from the Upper Grand Indigenous Education team that are organized by division. The slide-deck will include many mediums including live-streams, opportunities for inquiry, exploration, research and action in classrooms, and suggestions for ways educators can engage in reconciliation in their classrooms and beyond.

Staff and students are encouraged to wear orange shirts on September 30th, and to purchase shirts from Indigenous creators/businesses, if interested. Students and staff are invited to participate in the activities recommended on the slide deck including reading the 94 Calls to Action working toward meaningful individual, class, and school commitments to action and change.

The Ministry of Education has prepared a new Guideline and Resource document for the 2026/27 school year for educators from kindergarten to grade 12.

School staff can share their commitments and events through social media and/or directly with the Indigenous Education Department.
