We are excited to announce that on February 12th, 2025, in celebration of Black Excellence and Affirming Black Identities at CMES, we will be welcoming Sean Mauricette, a world renowned speaker and advocate for diversity and inclusion, to present a special presentation to our students in Grade 5-8 titled L.F.T (Laying Foundations Together) - Black History Month. Sean will also highlight the importance of cultural pride, the significance of understanding Black history, and the ways students can carry these lessons forward into their own lives, along with exploring what Black individuals were doing around the world before the word Black even existed. This presentation is one of Sean’s most powerful sessions and he uses the art of spoken word poetry and beat-boxing to connect with students in this engaging presentation.
In addition to the historical context, Sean’s session fosters a deeper understanding of identity, providing a platform for students to reflect on the importance of embracing diverse perspectives. His approach emphasizes resilience, empowerment, and the ongoing fight for equality, inspiring students to become advocates for justice in their own communities. This interactive presentation also includes opportunities for students to engage in discussions, ask questions, and reflect on the importance of unity in fostering a more inclusive future. We are thrilled to have him join us and believe this experience will be both educational and inspiring for all involved.
As a school, we are committed to affirming the identities of our Black students and ensuring that all students feel valued and supported. We recognize that Black history is not just a month-long observance, but a vital part of our shared history that should be celebrated and integrated into our daily lives. By providing experiences like Sean’s presentation, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the richness of Black culture and history, as we continue to combat all forms of racism and discrimination. Together, we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment where every student can thrive and feel proud of their identity.
