GUELPH, ON – Each year, beginning on the third Sunday in November, Ontario schools designate a week to bullying prevention and awareness. This week is designed to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment for all.

Between November 17 and 21, Upper Grand DSB will be focusing on using power for good. Each day during Bullying Prevention and Awareness Week, students and staff will be exploring a different theme and how it relates to the Power of Good.

On Monday, classes will be exploring the different types and characteristics of bullying. As well as the effects bullying has on a person and what to do if you experience or see bullying happening in your school community.

Tuesday’s focus will be using power to lift each other up while celebrating differences and diversity. Students and staff are invited to wear an odd pairing of socks on Tuesday. Students will also learn the story of the odd sock and how celebrating differences can bring us together.

On Wednesday, classes will be looking at having the courage to do what is right, even if it is hard.

Thursday’s focus will be on choosing kindness. According to BulliesOut, “It takes real strength to be kind in a world that isn’t always fair.”

On Friday students and staff are encouraged to wear pink to take action and stand up to bullying. Everybody can use their voice and actions to stand up for good if they choose to.

Resources are available for parents and guardians on the board website.

Together, let’s stand up for the Power of Good!
