Questions, Feedback, Concerns and Contact Information

The Upper Grand District School Board  is committed to building strong, positive relationships with students, families, and our community. If you have questions, feedback or concerns, we encourage you to contact us. We aim to answer questions and resolve matters at the level closest to where they happened, so families get timely and effective support.

Step 1: Contact your child’s teacher for questions related to the classroom, including:

  • student learning

  • homework and assignments

  • classroom rules and consequences

  • field trips

In the case of a concern expressed by a community member, contact should be initiated with the principal of the school rather than classroom teachers.

Step 2: Contact the school principal if you have inquiries about the school. This may include:

  • student registration

  • student behaviour

  • school council and fundraising

  • other school-wide programs

  • alternate attendance requests

Step 3: Contact your school’s Superintendent of Student Achievement if your inquiry remains unresolved or is about a community-wide issue. You may also contact your Superintendent if you have questions about Board-level support, including:

  • suspension appeals

You can find your school Superintendent contact in the School Directory pages

Step 4: If the matter is not resolved with the Superintendent, you may request that it be reviewed by the Associate Director.

Step 5: If the matter is still not resolved, you may request that it be reviewed by the Director of Education.

You can contact your local trustee at any time. Your trustee can assist you with:

  • concerns about your community

  • ideas and suggestions for the Board

  • items on Board Agenda and policies under review

Learn more about how to share your input on policy reviews and on communicating with trustees.

You may also wish to contact the appropriate board department if your inquiry is not school related, including:

We are committed to addressing inquiries in a fair, equitable and timely manner.

Human Rights Office

The UGDSB also has a Human Rights Office. The UGDSB Human Rights Office offers confidential consultation, intervenes in human rights matters, manages both informal and formal complaints, and leads human rights and accessibility training across the board. If you have a human rights–related concern or complaint, you can connect with your school or contact the Human Rights, Equity, and Accessibility Office directly. We will review the matter and determine the most appropriate support pathway.

Our Primary Goals

  1. Respond to concerns and complaints confidentially, fairly, and in a timely manner.

  2. Support the prevention of discrimination and harassment through human rights and accessibility training, education, and awareness.

Policies

Many policies, procedures and processes have been developed to help support students, families and the community, including the Public Concerns Policy.
