Celebrated on the first Wednesday of February, Winter Walk and Wheel Day (February 4, 2026) is an annual celebration across Ontario that encourages students to be active throughout their school day in the wintertime. Schools and families can celebrate on Winter Walk and Wheel Day and throughout the month of February.

Walking or rolling/wheeling to school contributes to:

  • Reduced vehicular traffic near the school entrance, which improves road safety

  • Reduced noise and air pollution from excessive vehicle use

  • Improved levels of physical activity among children

  • Improved student cognitive development and brain health

  • Improved student memory, attention in class and academic performance

Here are some ways that you can get involved:

  • Participate in Winter Walk Day by walking or rolling/wheeling to and from school on February 4, 2026.

  • Walking/Wheeling Wednesdays – Families walk or wheel to school one day per week in February.

  • Walk-a-Block – Families who drive their children to school can park a block or two from the school and walk the rest of the route.

  • For students who are bused to school, schools can participate in wheeling/walking events when at school

  • Schools can also participate by hosting walking/wheeling events during the school day.
