On Saturday, April 25, Norwell District Secondary School’s Relay for Life committee hosted a community breakfast to raise awareness and support for their upcoming Relay for Life event. From 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., 160 community members gathered in the school cafeteria to enjoy a delicious breakfast prepared by student volunteers.
The event was made possible through the generous support of numerous community partners, including the Palmerston Lions Club, Blessings to You, Tim Hortons, the Ontario Pork Producers, Krul Holsteins, Blooms on Main, and several local farmers. Their contributions helped create a welcoming and successful event for all who attended.
In addition to the breakfast, guests had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a movie night gift basket valued at over $100. Committee members donated items to create the ultimate movie night experience. Congratulations to Teresa Dekker, the lucky winner of the basket.
The breakfast fundraiser raised $2,000 in support of Norwell’s Relay for Life event, scheduled for Friday, May 29 at the Between the Lines sports facility in Listowel. The school has set an ambitious goal of raising $25,000 to support cancer research.
Thanks to the support of many sponsors, this year’s Relay for Life promises to be an exciting and engaging event. Activities will include Drom fitness session, Zumba, a photo booth, a movie screening, music from DJ Cody, live bands, music bingo and a variety of sports.
Students and community members are encouraged to get involved by registering online at www.relayforlife.ca/norwell. The committee also extends a special invitation to cancer survivors to participate in the Survivors’ Victory Lap—an inspiring ceremony that celebrates hope and honours the ongoing fight against cancer.
Those interested in participating as a survivor can contact betty.douglas@ugdsb.on.ca or call Norwell DSS at 519-343-3107 ext. 320. Donations can also be made online through the event website.
