Principal’s Message – November News

I would like to begin my November message by welcoming Jessica Walt, Christine Marcoux and Perly Hajjar to our school community! Ms. Walt will be taking over for Ms. Baidwan in Kindergarten. Ms. Marcoux will be covering the grade three/four position during Ms. Little’s absence. Ms. Hajjar is our new Assistant Office Coordinator replacing Mandy Clements.  I am sure they are finding Primrose to be a warm and welcoming environment!

Progress Reports

Progress reports will be available online starting today, November 18th at 4 pm. An email was sent at the end of last week explaining how to get your report cards digitally.

Due to the pandemic, parent/guardian interviews will once again be virtual. Parents and Guardians will be able to book online starting on the 18th and closing on the 24th. Interview times are set for November 25th from 4:00 pm to 8:00pm and again on November 26th from 9am to 3pm. Teaching staff may have time blocked off for breaks/unavailability during that time. If you need to book times outside of these times, please contact your child’s teacher. A reminder that November 26th is a PD Day. Teachers will be conducting interviews that day.

.Booking interviews using this system is extremely easy; the instructions for booking an interview are as follows:

    • the system will be open from November 15th @ 4:30 pm to November 23rd @ 10:00 am
    • you will need your child’s date of birth and OEN to book an interview (the OEN is found on the
Progress Report – progress reports will be available on the 16th of November)
    • gotothewebsitehttps://webapp.ugdsb.on.ca/pti/Account/Login(thislinkcanalsobeeasily
accessed by viewing our school web page under quick links)
    • log in at the top left-hand corner of the page
    • a screen with available teachers will appear
    • click on the teacher that you would like an interview with, then click the “Book for Selected Student”
      button
    • pick an available time that you would like, then click “Close to View Schedule”; your confirmed
      appointment will now appear
    • no interviews will be able to be selected after the deadline

If you do not have internet at home, please call the school and we will set up the interview for you. Please contact Leslie Prevost or myself if you have any questions about using the online system.

Bully Prevention Week

The week of November 22-26 is Bullying Prevention Week. As a school, we will help students to understand the difference between conflict and bullying and help them to realize that while conflict is normal, bullying is not.

Picture Day

Picture Day is on Tuesday November 30th for those classes who have not had their pictures taken yet.  We are doing individual photos only.  On Wednesday January 12th we will be having Grad photos and picture retakes.

Children Should Avoid Bringing Certain Items to School

Please do not allow your children to bring their toys, Pokémon cards or precious items to school to avoid any loss or damage and upset.  The school will not be responsible for loss or damage of personal items.

Outdoor Recess

We have been very fortunate to have enjoyed such a mild Fall. However, as the weather turns cooler I want to remind parents that we will be going outdoors for both recesses everyday whether the sun is shining or not. Additionally, teachers are making great use of the outdoor space as a means of extending the classroom. Please ensure your child is dressed for the weather and send in extra socks and mittens to ensure fingers and toes stay dry and warm.

Inclement Weather

Information about the process for students on bus cancellation and inclement weather days for the 2021-22 school year, has been shared on the board website.  This year we are returning to pre-pandemic practice where schools will remain open to students on bus cancellation days. Also important to know are the expectations for what used to be called “system shutdown” days. In keeping with the process established last year, on inclement weather days where schools and board sites are closed to students and staff, staff and students will pivot to remote learning when possible.

Please note how school closures are announced to the public.  During times of inclement weather, please listen to 1460 AM CJOY, 106.1 Magic FM, 99.1 FM CBC, Newstalk 570 AM, 96.7 FM CHYM, 98.1 FM CHFI, 680 AM CFTR, 92.5 KISS FM or watch the television news for school transportation cancellations.  Parents can also check the Board Website for bus cancellations.

Please listen for the following:

All school taxis and buses serving the Upper Grand District School Board in Dufferin County will not be operating today.

Parents can also check the Board’s website as well as www.findmyschool.ca  for any bus delays or cancellations.  The transportation website is www.stwdsts.ca Cancellations are made after 6:30 am.

School Council

The next Parent Council meeting is Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at 6:30 pm virtually.  A meeting link we be sent out and made available on the school website that day.   If you would like to look at past agendas and minutes they are posted on the school website under the school council tab

Food & Friends Student Nutrition Program

Currently we are providing grab and go snacks and snack bags, which are available to all students in each classroom.  These snacks adhere to the Student Nutrition Guidelines set out by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

Eco Schools

Our Eco Team has been working hard towards our Platinum goal.  Every class is making good use of their GOOS bins, our Waste Free Lunch Campaign is in full effect and some of our classes have been planting garlic in our gardens.  Our Kindergarten team is going to be working towards growing their own sprouts in class and we have connected with Dufferin Waste to educate some student learners about proper sorting of recycled goods and how to perform our waste audit.  So far, we have earned 13 points towards our goal of 101!  Keep working on it, Primrose!

Primrose Fundraiser

Primrose is organizing a Poinsettia Fundraiser with Bradford Greenhouse. This fundraiser will be supporting our plans to make some positive improvements to the outdoor play environment and will benefit all our students from Kindergarten to grade 8.

All orders are due by November 29th and will be available for pick up on Thursday, December 9th from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at the Honeywood arena.

Please collect orders and payment from family and friends using this form.
