Weekly Update Dec 6th

Posted December 6, 2022

Good morning Rockwood families,

We have an amazing opportunity for students aged 8-12 to participate in a virtual afterschool Stress Busters camp.  Please see the attached flyer.

Volunteer New Policy Update:

Thank you for expressing an interest in volunteering at Rockwood Centennial Public School. There have been some changes to the Board Volunteer policy requiring any parents interacting with students to have a record check completed.

Attached you will find the required information that needs to be completed prior to volunteering at our school. The attached forms need to be returned to the school (Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and Volunteer Agreement).  As a volunteer, you can apply for a free Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Screening online through the Rockwood OPP Service site https://www.opp.ca/index.php?id=147&lng=en

A personalized letter may be requested from the school when applying for a Criminal Record Check. Please contact Mrs. Rice if you require a letter for the screening.

Volunteer Application Form: Volunteer Agreement.pdf

Once you have all the required documents (vulnerable sector screening and volunteer application) please bring them into the school office or send them in with your child to school. We will then add this information to our central volunteer binder. You are only required to complete the forms once for the year and record checks are good for multiple years. In years when you do not complete a record check you will be asked to sign an offense declaration form in lieu of having a new Vulnerable Sector Check completed.

We are incredibly grateful for our many volunteers. We appreciate the extra work that this may take, however the safety of our students is our utmost priority and we are following the Board updated Volunteer policy. Should you require further information please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Rockwood Winter Concerts: We are very excited to share the musical talents of our students next week! I can’t believe it’s coming up already. Parents are welcome!

Thank you to Mrs. McCabe and Mme Rafalowski for organizing these concerts.

Updated Information for the Evening Winter Concert 7:00 pm on Thursday December 15th

The evening concert features the Music Clubs at RCPS. We have changed the time so it does not interfere with the Harris Mill concert. It is a busy time of year! The Grade 1-5 Choir, Grade 6-8 Choir, Rockwood Ensemble, and Intermediate Band will perform at this evening concert, which will be about 45 min in length. Grade 1-5 Choir members please wear a fun seasonal outfit! Grade 6-8 students please wear your music t-shirt with dark bottoms. Music t-shirts that were just ordered will be sent home by Tuesday Dec 13th. Band members please arrive early (6:00pm) to warm up if possible.

If your child is unable to attend the evening concert, please let Mrs. McCabe know by today or asap! Thank you to the students who have been coming after school for the extra rehearsals. Upcoming rehearsals this week and next:

Intermediate Band: Thursday December 8, end of the day until -4:15pm

Grade 6-8 Choir: Monday December 12, end of day until 4:00pm

Updated Information for the Daytime Winter Concert 9:00 am on Friday December 16th

This daytime concert features the music classes from Grade 1-6 (including 6/7). Students please wear something fun and festive on the concert performance day! Props for specific classes will be communicated in your child’s Google Classroom. The Grade 6 and 6/7 classes will be performing on concert band instruments which is very exciting! Since there are three classes (6A, 6B, 6/7) they will have to be staggered throughout the performance. The Grade 1-5 choir and the 6-8 Choir will perform at the end of the concert and lead everyone in the finale song!

Kindergarten Concert at 2:00pm on December 20th

An invitation will go home to Kindergarten parents from their classroom teachers.
