Hello Rockwood families,

I hope you enjoyed the weekend and sunshine! Staff have been busy working on report cards and they will be available on the portal on Feb 15th.

CYC Update: Congratulations to Mrs. Smith our Child and Youth Counsellor (CYC) who had her baby! We welcome Ms. Speers, our new CYC to Rockwood Centennial who begins next week.

We look forward to welcoming Tracy Cain who is presenting to our gr 4-8 students about Canadian Black history in honour of Black Heritage, Black Brilliance and Black Futures Month.  Please see the information below for more details. Her presentation is planned for grade 4-6 from 11:40-12:45 and grades 7-8 1:40-2:45.

“As a 5th generation Black Canadian, uncovering this rich Canadian history is my passion. My presentation celebrates my ancestors’ stories on coming to Canada, by way of the Underground Railroad. Drawing on more than 200 years of family history, I will educate you about the journey, secret codes and songs used. You will learn more about Black Canadian Pioneers’ resilience and tenacity to seek out freedom plus the sacrifices and contributions they made to help develop communities throughout Ontario.” Tracy Cain

Bake Sale items needed: We are looking for some help with our bake sale fundraiser for our Grade 8 graduation. If you are able to contribute items to the bake sale any Wednesday in February, please contact Mrs. Soper at [email protected] or the school. Items for our bake sale must be nut free. We appreciate any contributions and a label indicating what is in the items. We will also be selling popcorn and prepackaged cookies that are nut free every Wednesday starting Feb 7th.  Cookies are $1.50 and popcorn $2 and baked items $1-$2 with a limit to allow enough for all to purchase. Thanks in advance for your support.

For our upcoming Dance-a-thon on Feb 14th, all students will receive an individual popcorn bag and juice box following their dance time courtesy of our snack program. Please continue to raise funds for our Dance-a-thon and all forms must be in on February 14th to be considered for the prizes including a bicycle and Guelph Storm tickets! Please make your payment on schoolcashonline.com or send in cash attached to the form. Congratulations to our student voice team on planning this fun event including getting student ideas for the music, planning the bake sale and decorations for our gym! We have a neon theme so get ready to get your GLOW on and students are encouraged to wear neon colours or white.  Thanks to the parents who have indicated they are interested in helping with counting funds and supervising. If you would like to assist, please contact Samantha McIntosh at [email protected]. Only 9 more days!

Grade 7 parents: We are looking for help with supervising during the dance for our Grade 8 graduation on June 26th from 7-9:30 pm. This is something that grade 7 parents are asked to help with to allow the Grade 8 students to enjoy the dance.  Please contact Angela at Angela MacArthur [email protected] if you are able to assist and a vulnerable sector screening is required.

Human Trafficking Webinar:

Please see the opportunity for a webinar learning about Human Trafficking and how to support your children/youth and how to connect with supports.  This will include a panel discussion with police, children’s mental health and child protection services.
