Happy Thanksgiving SIB Families! The weekly news

Posted October 5, 2020

Dear SIB families,

Happy October! We are starting to settle into our new way of life at SIB. A huge thank you again to everyone for making our start up a success and for respecting the rules around masks and social distancing as it takes a full team effort to make it work. Thanks!

#1 Parent Information: Monitoring and Managing COVID-19, this is an important reminder from Public Health about how we can all work together to help stop the spread. Click the link for information as there have been important updates since the last email was sent: https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/2020/09/18/parent-information-monitoring-and-managing-covid-19/

#2 SIB Virtual Open House is here! Starting today you can go to https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/2020/10/05/welcome-to-the-sib-virtual-open-house/  and  your child’s google classroom to get a look inside SIB. We are sorry we can’t have everyone in the school this year due to COVID-19 policies so we are bringing the school to you! All the teachers have been hard at work getting a small presentation ready for you so you can connect with them and see what it’s like in your child’s class. The presentations will be shared in your child’s google classroom so be sure that you can access it. If you have any problems accessing the google classroom please reach out to your child’s teacher.

#3 Mark your Calendars: Thanksgiving Day (Oct. 12th) & PA Day (Oct. 30th) are both days where the school is closed for students. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

#4 World Teacher Day is Today, October 5th! Everyone at SIB wants to thank all the work that our amazing teachers are doing for our students today and everyday. This is especially true during the start up for this school year. Thank you Teachers!

#5 Dress for the weather: Teachers K to Gr 8 are taking their students outside as much as possible and to be ready for that we are asking that students come to school prepared to be outside. The weather has turned to fall and wet days are on their way, so please ensure that enough clothes are packed to get your child through the day. Also, we can now add a pair of dry indoor shoes to items brought to the school so no one has to have wet feet. So please feel free to pack an extra pair of shoes on those rainy days. Rain won’t stop us from having fun and learning outside!

#6 Masks, timing and social distancing on the tarmac: To help with social distancing protocols before and after school, we are asking that all students and parents/guardians please wear a mask when they enter the school grounds (tarmac area at the back of the school). We also encourage students to not arrive on the school grounds before 8:35am to help avoid unorganized large groupings. Parents/guardians we also need your help to please keep reminding your children about the importance of social distancing. We are at full student attendance and therefore we have many people in this area and this will help protect everyone.

#7 Absent or Late? If you know that your child(ren) will be absent or late please call the school 519-824-1442, as you can leave a message 24 hours a day. If you leave a message on our machine and you know that your child will be absent for longer than one day please leave those details as well so the office can be as accurate as possible. Thanks!

News regarding school is constantly being updated. SIB will continue to communicate with families step by step with information when it becomes available as we move through the school year. Please continue to check your email, twitter and our website https://www.ugdsb.ca/sibps/ daily for updates.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our SIB families!
