Message From Principal

Well it looks like spring is finally here and we are happy to see all of the students participating in their online learning.

The DanceEd team worked their magic again!  We look forward to sharing the video of class dances with our students. I’m very proud of all of our students and thankful to the DanceEd team for all of their work.  A special shout-out also goes out to Mr. McCoy and Mme Vaughan who prepared the gym for our Virtual Residency.  I’m appreciative of the teachers who participated in the staff dance!

Mental Health & Education Week is the week of May 3rd.  This year’s theme is: “Celebrating Learning, Wellness, and Community/
“Célébrant l’apprentissage, le bien-être et la communauté”.
Teachers will be sharing activities with their class during this Education week.

Please feel free to contact me at any time to share ideas, suggestions or questions about your child’s education and school experiences. My door is open.

Human Development and Sexual Health

The Ministry of Education has requested that the Human Development and Sexual Health expectations from the 2010 Physical Education curriculum be taught to students. This education starts with children learning about themselves, their feelings, their bodies and about showing respect for themselves and others in a reliable and accurate way. This learning is most effective when parents and schools work together. Parents help their children form values about relationships and their behaviours. To support these discussions, we are letting parents know that this unit will be covered in the May by Grades 1-6.  There are plenty of resources available for parents to support the learning of the curriculum on the Ministry of Education website: http://edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/elementary/health.html.

Grade 6 Graduation

We would like to hold the Grade 6 Graduation on Thursday, June 24th.  Ms. Kelly will be sharing more information as we are provided with an accurage picture of what the Public Health/Stay At Home Orders are in place at the time.

Pride Flag

We will be flying the pride flag under the Canadian flag to symbolize that all are welcome here at Victory. All through the year we work on the themes of equity and inclusion.

Moving?

If you know that you will be moving out of our school area before the year is done, or during the summer months, please call us at 519-822-6931.  This information helps us with our school organization and classroom planning for September, 2021.

2021 – 2022 Class Placements

At this point in time we are not sure of class configurations or teacher assignments for next year. We will be setting tentative organizations early in May. Teachers work as a team to make decisions about class placements of each student. Decisions are based on many criteria, including learning styles, work habits and social groupings.

If you would like to make a request based on your child’s learning needs, please send Ms. Anderson a written note or e-mail message with your request and reason before May 7th. Please note that requests will be taken into consideration along with a variety of other variables.

Class placements will not be announced before the first day of school in September, 2021.  Please also note that class placement in September is always tentative.  Once school has begun our board takes a look at enrollment board wide and makes adjustments according to numbers of students. There is often re-organization during the first two weeks which results in changes for some students and teachers.

We have had great meetings to start this new academic year, with lots of amazing support for our teachers and students approved by our Council. Including providing voice amplifiers to teachers, funding for the Forest of Reading, the 12 Days of Giving, and our recent Art Day on Feb 6, wonderful events between Victory and the community. We also had the exciting announcement that Bisson Dentistry has donated $2000 to Victory through the UG Learning Foundation and will be applied to technology, specifically Chromebooks. We sponsored a Staff Book Study focused on anti-oppression training brought to us by Olivia Vaughn. We are now focusing on budget priorities and attempting to determine a solution to the continuing issue of Council purchasing mulch every 1-2 years.
