Forest of Reading Program

Posted March 29, 2021

The Forest of Reading programs are well underway.  Both students and teachers are excited to have the books arrive in their classrooms.  Many of the teachers on staff created short videos about an individual book(s) as a preview for the students to build anticipation and interest.  All classes at Victory are participating in at least one of the 5 programs:  Blue Spruce, Silver Birch Express, Silver Birch, Prix Peuplier and Prix Meleze.  Teachers also have access to a variety of supplementary resources found on the website of the Ontario Library Association (OLA); these resources help to enrich and expand upon the individual programs.  After reading (or listening to) the Forest of Reading books, the students will have an opportunity to vote for their favourite book in each program.  Votes are due in by the end of April and will be submitted through the Library Learning Commons.  Then, in mid-May the OLA will announce the winners during a streamed ceremony.  Already numerous positive responses have been relayed to me, such as a student requesting past Prix Peuplier books to read in her classroom and a teacher asking if our Learning Commons had other books in the Peter & Ernesto: Sloths in the Night series because the students enjoyed it so much. Thank you again to the School Council for providing funding for these wonderful programs.
