SCHOOL COUNCIL NEWS

We would like to send out a thank you to everyone who helped make the Bazaar a huge success.

“The Winter Bazaar was on Saturday November 23 and it was a HUGE success! Nearly 40 vendors sold crafts, goodies and other unique products. About 325 people came out to experience this exceptional community shopping event.

School Council would like to send out a huge thanks to everyone who attended, spread the word or supported the Bazaar. Special mention goes out to:

  • the grade eight students for helping with set up
  • the student buskers for entertaining bazaar attendees
  • the kindergarten families for their contributions to the bake sale
  • volunteers from the Children’s Foundation of Guelph Wellington who spent the day working at the bake sale and spreading the word about the Trees for Tots program.  Please consider the Trees for Tots program as a way to support the foundation if you plan to have a live Christmas tree this year.

The success of the event would not have been possible without the amazing efforts of our fundraising committee lead by Melissa Cotter and Michelle Scoular. A huge shout-out to both of you and all of your hard work!

School Council will be hosting other events this year. If you’re interested in helping make our next event a success, please attend our next School Council meeting on January 16, 2020.

MESSAGE FROM FOOD AND FRIENDS PROGRAM

Our snack program is now in full-swing!  All the food that we serve in our student nutrition program must meet the nutritional guidelines set out by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. You see, we truly are bringing healthy food to hungry minds. If you have any questions or concerns about our student nutrition program, or would like to contribute in some way, please contact Ms. Murray-Cako or Ms. Coats.

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE

This is a time of year when we are perhaps a little more aware of the importance of reaching out and helping others in our community. We will be collecting food items to be donated to the Guelph Food Bank.  The Food Drive will run December 9th – 13th. A bin will be in the front foyer.

THE GIVING TREE

In addition to our food drive we will be collecting donations of mittens, hats and socks to donate to a local charity.  There will be a tree set up in the front foyer of the school December 10th – 14th.  Families who wish to donate home-made or bought items can send them with their children. The children can then add them to the giving tree.

LOST & FOUND

There are many items in our lost & found. Any time you are in school, please take a minute and check for any items which might have been misplaced by your child. Items will be set out by the gym the week of December 9th – 13th.  Items not picked up will be donated.

SEASONAL CELEBRATION ASSEMBLY

We welcome all families to our Seasonal Assembly on Wednesday, December 18th starting at 9:00am in the gym.  Classes will be doing a short presentations.

LEARNING COMMONS NEWS

Thank you to all Winegard families and staff who were able to attend our Indigo night at Stone Road Mall in November. We appreciate you making the time to come out and help support our school! This year we raised $684.66 in Indigo gift cards which we will use towards purchasing new books and makerspace items.

The makerspace continues to be a popular destination for building and creating during recess. We are always looking for additional materials and are happy to take your donations! In particular, we love receiving fabric for our sewing club, craft supplies, and any building materials (wooden blocks, straws, wrapping paper tubes, etc.) your family may be ready to pass on. Please feel free to send these items in with your child and know they will be put to good use!

INCLEMENT WEATHER INFORMATION
