April

Spring is here! We have had to be off the field a few times to avoid some wet conditions. The Students have been very patient as we have had to make some adjustments to our recess plan. Please continue to send your child(ren) with appropriate clothing and outdoor/indoor footwear. Also, please remember to send a water bottle to school as our access to the water fountain remains closed. Students can use the refillable water station as needed.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Dominos

As usual, the Winegard Wolfpack did not disappoint! Thank you to all of the Winegard families and Staff who participated in our March fundraiser. A big thank you to all of you who ordered pizza, shared social media posts, talked friends and family into ordering and persevered when the codes were mixed up.
We were truly overwhelmed by your generosity and enthusiasm! You far surpassed our expectations. We raised $905.00 from pizza sales alone!!! Domino’s added another $95.00 to make a grand total of $1000.00. (It should be noted we did have an additional monetary donation given directly to the school) This brings our fundraising to $1040.00 towards a water refilling station on the second floor of the school.
We know there were a few hiccups. Your understanding and patience was appreciated. Dominos Pizza said this was one of their busiest fundraisers.
A special shout out goes out to Mrs. MacDowell’s grade 1/2 class who had the greatest participation. They will each be receiving their prize shortly of small pizza individual pizzas!
We will be running a second Raising the Dough Night on TUESDAY, APRIL 27th, 2021. Please reach out to us if you have any concerns or suggestions for our April fundraising night at [email protected]. Remember to follow us on Facebook @ William C Winegard School Council for upcoming events and other information from the school.

KISS AND RIDE
It has been very busy in the Kiss and Ride area and the parking lot. The Kiss and Ride zone is meant as a drop and go area. Cars are not to be parked and left unattended. If you need to park, pull into a parking spot or park on the available side streets. We need to keep the parking lot clear and the bus area. Again, if we are not able to minimize the traffic coming through our kiss and ride, we will need to take steps to close the Kiss and Ride. Please choose safety over convenience!

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PINK
April 14, 2021 marks the International Day of Pink. It is a day where communities across the country, and across the world, can unite in celebrating diversity and raising awareness to stop bullying. Wear PINK!

Blue SpruceLIBRARY LEARNING COMMONS
This month we will mark the conclusion of the Blue Spruce reading program with in-class celebrations and voting. Many primary students in the school participated in this annual event over the last 10 weeks, listening to a new story from a Canadian author each week. Now that they have heard all of the books, students will have a chance to vote on their favourite one! WCW is officially registered for this year’s event, so student votes will be tabulated with the provincial totals. We look forward to finding out the winning book!

SAFETY ON THE PLAYGROUND
With the warm weather approaching our students have been anxiously waiting for our playground structure to reopen.  Board policy determines that the equipment is off limits from November 1 to April 1 and at other times as determined by the school administration. At this point in time our playground structures remain closed.

BIKES AND SCOOTERSBike Clipart

Promoting the safety of students riding to and from school is a shared responsibility. Student’s riding to school must wear a properly fitted cycling helmet while cycling and walk bikes and scooters when on school property.  Bicycles and scooters left on school property during the school day must be equipped with a lock and secured properly. We are not responsible for loss or damage to your bicycle or a scooter. It is encouraged that primary students ride to and from school accompanied by an adult.
