We take all incidents of bullying seriously.  If your child is the victim of bullying or sees bullying behavior at school, please encourage him/her to speak with someone at school or use our board’s online reporting tool.  Report Bullying gives students and parents 24/7 access for reporting bullying.  You don’t have to identify yourself – just your school – and your message gets sent directly to the school principal for follow-up.   You’ll find the Report Bullying button on our school’s website:  https://webapps.ugdsb.on.ca/reportbullying/

It’s that time of year again: we are starting our annual Forest of Reading program! This is Canada’s largest recreational reading program with over 270,000 participants every year. The goal is to connect people with new and engaging Canadian literature, as well as giving them the opportunity to vote for their favorite book.

HOW DO THE PROGRAMS WORK?

Older readers ( grade 3 and up) have the option to participate by reading five out of the ten nominated titles in a given category and then voting in April for their favourite one. Copies of the nominated books are available to sign out during students’ weekly library period. Many are available in digital formats too, and you can find them at the Guelph Public Library. After they finish a book, students check in with a participating teacher to discuss what they read.

Students in Kindergarten to Grade 2 participate in the picture book program called Blue Spruce. Teachers will read these ten books aloud to students and classes can track their progress.

In April, all participating classes and students will have a voting/celebration day. More information will come home as our plans develop. We hope that students enjoy these books and are excited to see them celebrating authors, illustrators, and reading!

SCHOOL CROSSING GUARDS

The City is experiencing a shortage of crossing guards and are currently struggling to cover all locations. They are doing their best to fill these gaps; however, the program may have unforeseen vacancies due to guards calling in for same-day coverage.

The priority is to cover the no-control intersections first. Control locations include intersections with traffic signals, intersection pedestrian signals (IPS) and all-way stops.  We will cover these locations if we can.

The City’s website has some helpful tips for crossing at traffic signals.  Following is the internal listing of all locations, noting those with no-control and control intersections. 2023 January 16 ASCG listing
