We take all incidents of bullying seriously.  If your child is the victim of bullying or sees bullying behavior at school, please encourage him/her to speak with someone at school or use our board’s online reporting tool.  Report Bullying gives students and parents 24/7 access for reporting bullying. You don’t have to identify yourself – just your school – and your message gets sent directly to the school principal for follow-up.   You’ll find the Report Bullying button on our school’s website: https://webapps.ugdsb.on.ca/reportbullying/

SAFETY FIRST

One of our most important goals is to ensure the safety of your children here at school. For this reason we ask that children refrain from rough play and do not kick or throw snow before, during or after school. We also ask that students use the shoveled and prepared sidewalks and stairs to enter and exit the building at the beginning and end of the day, rather than slipping and sliding up and down the slopes of the property. Your assistance in supporting these expectations is much appreciated.

ABSENCES AND LATES

As part of our attendance procedure we need to account for every child in the school first thing in the morning.  Please continue to call the school if your child will be absent or late (519-824-3661). A message can be left at any time of day or night.  This will save time and worry during Ms. Coats’ safe arrival check. Also, if your child is arriving late to school, please check him/her in at the office.   Thank you!

FROM THE LEARNING COMMONS

William C. Winegard school has decided to designate this February as Literacy Month! Throughout February we will be encouraging and promoting a love of reading and writing with some fun activities. Each Monday we will be having a school-wide DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) moment. Students are welcome to bring in and share their own special books from home. We have also launched the Forest of Reading program, which includes reading some very special books in JK to Grade 2 classes and book clubs in Grades 3 to 8. On February 19th we will celebrate I Read Canadian Day. We will also be hosting our first-ever bookmark competition! Additionally, we will be having 2 book swap events– so start looking on your bookshelves for those books your children may have outgrown or are ready to pass on to a new reader! Any funds received from the book swap will go towards developing our VR station in the library learning commons. Stay tuned throughout the month for dates to be announced for these events and more!
