Updated Graduation Plans

Posted June 15, 2021

Dear Parents and Guardians of Grade 8 Students,

Last week the Government announced that there was a possibility of outdoor graduations. While this news may have been welcomed by many, due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions around large gatherings and physical distancing, UGDSB elementary schools will not be holding traditional in-person graduation ceremonies this spring. Aberfoyle PS will continue with our previous plan for our Grade 8 graduation celebration, adhering to all public health restrictions.

Students are invited to celebrate their Grade 8 graduation in two parts.  On Thursday, June 24 we will be sharing a “virtual assembly” link in students’ Google classrooms. This assembly will include messages from staff, graduation awards, a valedictorian speech, acknowledgment of our honour roll students, and photos of our grads. Timing and other information will be shared with students shortly.

The second part of the celebration is our Grad Pick-Up on Monday June 28th with a rain date of Tuesday June 29th.  Students will have the opportunity to come and pick up their certificates, a gift, and any other items remaining at the school. This will also be an opportunity to say good-bye to staff and take pictures, if wanted. Although we would like to get together as a large group, we have been directed by the Ministry and Public Health that we must adhere to class cohorts, not enter the school, have a maximum of two guests per student and are not allowed to gather before or after at the school. All students and guests must self-screen and wear a mask at all times (more information on protocols to follow closer to the date).

Grad Pick-Up times are as follows:

Mr. Skeoch: 2:00pm – 3:00pm

Mrs. Slater: 3:00pm – 4:00pm

Please contact the appropriate homeroom teacher if your student will not be able to attend.

We look forward to seeing all our students and wishing them well as they finish their time at Aberfoyle PS.

Sincerely,

A. Cloutier

Principal
