Grade 8 Graduation Plans

Posted April 30, 2021

As a result of the pandemic, this year’s Grade 8 graduation will differ from previous years.  The Upper Grand District School Board has provided some guidelines on how to celebrate this milestone in students’ education and the Aberfoyle staff has decided to plan with the assumption that we will be back learning in the building before the end of June.  If this changes,  we will shift and adjust accordingly.

We would like to maintain as much of the traditional graduation as possible, with speeches, awards, certificates, etc. but will be dividing these components into two events.  On Thursday, June 24, 2021, we will have a student-only award ceremony during the school day.  We will hold this event outside and adhere to covid protocols including sanitizing stations, physical distancing, and cohorting of chairs, elbow bumps upon receiving awards, and the wearing of masks at all times. Although families will not be able to physically attend the ceremony, it will be recorded and shared through the Google Classroom. Our students who moved to the Remote School for this year are invited and encouraged to attend.  The date of this event will be adjusted if there is inclement weather.

On the evening of Monday, June 28, 2021, families will have an opportunity to share in a drive-thru pick up of their Graduation Certificate.  This will be a chance to say farewell to staff and celebrate as a family.  Due to guidelines, we will not be able to have group gatherings on the school property during this event.  At the beginning of June, we will share a google form so that you can sign up for a drive-thru time that works for your family.  This will be a rain-or-shine event.

More information will follow and be adjusted, if necessary.  If you have any questions upon receiving this information, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
