Holiday wishes and update for January 2020

Posted December 20, 2019

Dear families and friends,

We wanted to take this time to wish everyone a happy holiday season and thank you for a great start to the school year.  December is an exciting time of year, as it is an opportunity to meet with family and friends, reflecting on the year gone past, as well as looking forward to the start of a New Year.

Over the past few months we have had a number of celebrations throughout the school.  During the month of September, it was great to meet a number of families at the bbq hosted by Alma Public School’s School Council.  Ms. Spike enjoyed meeting a number of parents, as well as seeing the local Optimist in action as they continue to support our school in a variety of ways.  Thank you to all the families who participated in Parent-Teacher interviews in the month of November. Thank you also to our families for your support with school fundraisers, as well as this year’s School Council initiative of adopting a family from Centre Wellington in an effort to provide them with a bit of joy this Christmas season.  We were fortunate to end 2019 with a successful Jingle Mingle Concert showcasing our creative and talented students, marking a special evening together.

As you know, Ms. Spike has been on a return-to-work plan for the past few months as she returns from a severe concussion.  We have been so fortunate to have Mr. Hill come out of his recent retirement to work alongside Ms. Spike throughout the Fall months.  Throughout the months of November and December, Mr. Hill has reduced his hours at the school to Tuesdays and Thursdays only, while Ms. Spike has been in the office Monday/Wednesday/Friday, as well as building hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays in December.  As retired Administrators can work a maximum of 50 days in a school year, Mr. Hill’s time with us this year will come to an end on Thursday, December 19th, 2019. It has been a pleasure to have Mr. Hill back at the school and we know he will be missed! Keep an eye out for him in the New Year however as we hope to see him pop by now and then to update us on how his second crack at retirement is going.

Ms. Spike will continue to work full days in the New Year on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays, as well as continuing to build hours in the school on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Until Ms. Spike’s full return on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we are fortunate to have Mr. Davies and Mr. Cassano working with us in January. Both Mr. Davies and Mr. Cassano are familiar with the staff and students, having served as Principal Designates in the past when Mr. Hill has been away (Mr. Davies will be in January 7/9; Mr. Cassano will be in January 13/14/16).  As the month of January progresses, we will be sure to let you know when we have a more clear picture of Ms. Spike’s full return date. Thank you for your ongoing support and patience as Ms. Spike fully returns to her role at the school.

We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.  We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Spike and Mr. Hill
